The politicians getting covid also get better medical treatment than most working class people. Around the time Biden got COVID, it was a known issue with paxlovid that a single course often results in rebound for at risk people because the course duration isn't sufficient. The FDA still hasn't approved a course extension. Biden got to have a second course. My mother didn't. My mother still has complications from long covid two years later. This is ridiculous. I've liked Bass fine enough up until now. This infuriates me.

A mask ban in liberal LA.. the nation is moving so far to the right it's scary even if expected by astute political observers and historians.

It's an anti protest thing from center-right dems.

The incident came on the heels of other large protests across the country, which had left Governor Kathy Hochul and New York City Mayor Eric Adams eyeing the reinstatement of a mask ban for protesters, both saying they felt the anonymity masking provides had emboldened protesters to commit violence. Meanwhile, the city is undergoing a renewed wave of Covid-19, which neither politician deigned to consider.

Eric Adams is awful, he cuts programs like a Republican and is just about as corrupt as one. Iirc he was a "tough on crime" elect

Maybe she got it when she was sharing a stage with (and profusely thanking) an Infowars host a few days ago?

Each Saturday the total number of Americans killed by Covid 19 is updated.

Each Saturday the number of Americans killed in the last week by Covid 19 is posted.

I've been monitoring this feed for a few years now. Spring and summer it always looks optimistic with only a few hundred American deaths a week. Then in mid-late fall it goes back up to at least 1,000 deaths a week. A 9/11 every month.

I am curious what the rate is compared to other common diseases like the flu? I think people have largely moved on as, as the public perception has shifted to COVID becoming less severe and those who are unhealthy or have immune deficiencies have options include immunizations.

Not necessarily my take - I live with a cancer patient who recieves chemo so when going to large public places (airports, malls) I will take a mask with me, though I don't wear one at work (our desks our fairly far apart and I wash my hands and keep hand sanitizer with me in general.

Anyways, mask bans are a terrible idea. There are people that require them and I can't see any logical way around this. If this is such a problem we need to look at other ways of addressing this.

As a sidenote, COVID generally improved my medical hygiene. I do a better job of washing hands for more than five seconds, for example. When I'm sick I stay home (I am fortunate that since COVID remote work for sick employees is easily available) and only go out if I need to (if I need groceries and can't afford the delivery markup), and when I DO go out I always wear a mask.

She's a massive NIMBY, so I'm not surprised she has terrible policy ideas. California and New York politics suck. Maybe they'd be better if their primaries had higher turnout?

Karen Bass floated banning masks for protesters days before coming down with Covid-19.
