Fitness Weekly Discussion
What have you been doing lately for your own fitness? Try out any new programs or exercises? Have any questions for others about your training? Want to vent about poor behavior in the gym? Started a new diet or have a new recipe you want to share? Anything else health and wellness related?
My relationship with fitness is like many people, off and on again. Today though, definitely on the wagon.
0600 saber drills. 20 isolated rolls per arm. Forwards and backwards cuts and guards as well. I use a long baton as my saber stand in. It actually weighs more than a real sword.
I then did pulls. 2 pulls ups (my max), shoulder shrugs, and then rows. Also did 2x10 curls.
I then biked 10.5km to work. With the same as a return leg later.
Why? My goal is to get stronger and have good aerobic health. I want the endurance to be able to spar rounds and rounds in full gear at HEMA and not feel the weight of it as much. I don't need to LOOK strong, but I want to be able to show it if I ever need it.
Are you actually part of a HEMA club? I really wish there was one near me... it looks like so much damn fun! :P
I am! We meet for classes Tuesdays, and open sparring Saturdays.
Nice! I am super jealous! I watch a fair amount of medieval history and HEMA-adjacent content (Schola Gladiatoria, Tod's workshop, Skallagrim, etc and HEMA has always intrigued me... but apparently the closest club to where I live now is about a 50min drive away though. :(
Is SCA still a thing? They used to come to my school when I was a kid and do demonstrations. As a college student I heard their events were lecherous and fun, but I was too “cool” to go, have always regretted that.
I had never actually heard of SCA before... so I presume it's a US/regional thing? I don't think they have ever done anything like that in schools up here in Canada.

Sadly, it looks like they are only in Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario. :(

I got a new jump rope: https://www.ropee.fi/en/ -- and it takes my breath away. Other than that, I tried to get back to my weekly practice after a flu and it has been hard. I managed like 40% of the session I usually did before the flu.
Weight is back to bad normal also. 78kg, when my target is 69kg. Also checked my fat levels, 24.9 and 11 for visceral, which apparently are just barely healthy figures.
