Fitness Weekly Discussion
What have you been doing lately for your own fitness? Try out any new programs or exercises? Have any questions for others about your training? Want to vent about poor behavior in the gym? Started a new diet or have a new recipe you want to share? Anything else health and wellness related?
Sooooo, I very nearly severed the tip of my left thumb on Sunday while cutting vegetables (pic with bandage, and bandage off, showing stitches), and haven't been able to work out since then. And I probably won't be able to for another week or so until it heals sufficiently, which the ER Doc said should be 10-14 days. :(
I genuinely never thought that I would miss working out, but I honestly do. It's a weird feeling, and I'm finding myself surprisingly depressed about it, worried that now that my 9 month streak has been broken I won't be able to get back into it, and getting increasingly anxious to get back to the routine ASAP as a result. It also sucks because whenever things start going well for me I feel like I'm always just waiting for the other shoe to drop, and this was that inevitable shoe drop, I guess... Here's hoping it doesn't completely derail all the progress I've made over the last 9 months (mentally and physically). :(
Maybe take up cardio or legs/core while you wait for your finger to heal? Just so that you dont fall out of your rhythm? Additionally, i found that watching videos and planning my return and getting excited for it kept my interest up during injury recovery periods.
Yeah, that's kinda my plan already. My usual routine is 4x week, HIIT cardio on my elliptical in the mornings and lifting at night. And the cardio is definitely the first thing I plan on starting again once I safely can, with leg days shortly after that. However, as per Dr's orders, before I resume any real physical activity I still need to wait, at the very least, another few days until my finger heals more so I don't risk accidentally tearing the stitches, reopening the wound, and getting it infected. I sweat A LOT when working out too though, so that's also unfortunately playing against me a little bit here too. :(
p.s. I also already watch quite a bit of fitness content on YouTube and plan my routines out somewhat meticulously, so I don't think a lack of enthusiasm will be much of an issue. Hopefully, anyways. I still appreciate the advice though, so thanks for trying to help. :)
I wish I had more to add than just moping about how my decision to look for new work has stalled my lunchtime gym attendance at my current job. Like, I can't justify the annual membership if I leave, but I'm three months into looking and feeling flabbier and more sore because of it. What's a guy to do?
It feels like I have been having one thing after another this past month that prevented me from going to the gym. This week, I caught a cold and wasn't feeling physically up to working out for most of the week. I really wanted to go yesterday but that evening I started feeling nauseous. Today I finally went back and it feels so good. I did things lighter than normal because I didn't want to risk feeling sick, but even with a reduced intensity it felt good to move my body.
