Fitness Weekly Discussion
What have you been doing lately for your own fitness? Try out any new programs or exercises? Have any questions for others about your training? Want to vent about poor behavior in the gym? Started a new diet or have a new recipe you want to share? Anything else health and wellness related?
I turn 40 in 3 weeks, and I am 7 weeks into a “couch to 5k” type program. The first week was rough (hadn’t run since high school), but I’m already running better than I ever have. I’ve already noticed an improvement in my mood and overall health. My kids (9 and 6) have taken notice and want to run with me. That’s a great reward by itself.
I’m planning on running a 5k around Christmas and hopefully a 10k next year.
I’m still losing weight. Greg Doucette has an old adage “you’re fatter than you think you are.” Which seems to be holding true for me as I realize now how much weight I had actually gained in the past year. My triz dosage was upped, I only plan on being on it for another month.
I also started HIFU treatment on my abdomen, and will start radio frequency treatment. This is to help the loose skin on there, something that has bothered me in the past two years since I’ve lost the weight. I first noticed how saggy my skin was when I started having sex and saw the stomach spill downward when I was on top. I recently did a plank shirtless to see and it does seem like I have more now. I’m hoping this treatment works otherwise I will be getting surgery to remove the excess skin down in Mexico (will probably eventually happen anyways). The HIFU treatment hurt and my abdomen feels sore, I had a hard time exercising today.
My family has been going “you’re too skinny now” and calling me anorexic. Even some co-workers have said this. I’ve learned my lesson from last time to not listen to this lol. For context, on the BMI scale I’m still in the overweight category. I just have favorable body fat distribution and a good frame with broad shoulders. And also, you know, culturally stuff has shifted and the people that tell me that tend to be obese themselves so the idea of what an overweight person looks like has changed.
I started to swim at least once each weekend, the first day was tough, swimming for at least 1 hour really made my neck stiff, now that I'm getting used to it, I love it, it feels relaxing and it's good cardio.
The only issue I have is how bad the opening times and how crowded the swimming lines can be sometimes, otherwise, is a good complementary exercise to calisthenics
