As mentioned in the article, the whole thing is rather murky - novel treatments often take a decade or more to go through trials, and to be declared safe and effective. We've got similar "works in...
As mentioned in the article, the whole thing is rather murky - novel treatments often take a decade or more to go through trials, and to be declared safe and effective. We've got similar "works in theory" ideas for HIV infection cures, but it's frankly all too early. I feel like we're not going to see anything like this become widespread for another 15, 20 years maybe.
Fingers crossed this does work, but medicinal progress is slow by design (to prevent another thalidomide situation). Still, if the general theoretic basis for this works, we could see this progress from temporary relief (the Nature column mentions it's far too early to determine the longevity of the effects, granted it actually does something) to a cure, which would be absolutely fantastic. Alzheimer's is one of these things that scare me more than cancer.
