It's important to note that Keto is usually ranked pretty low on the list of diets (here's a source)and that carbs are actually pretty important.

One of the simplest ways to have a better diet:

      • eat less
      • eat green, leafy things
      • moderate your meat intake (if you eat meat)

There are a variety of things that you could have done which coincided with the elimination of sugars and carbs that helped you feel less tired. For example, a lot of people change their diet and also start exercising at the same time, or they eliminate caffeine. Either one can contribute to you feeling less tired, but we think it's the diet itself when it's the things that go along with the diet.

That said, if Keto's working for you, then you keep it going. I"m certainly not anyone that you should take dietary advice from.

As someone who spends way too much of their free time reading studies on health and fitness, I take issue with dietary "ranking" like this.

The reality is that genetics are far too variable, and which diets people can actually stick to, varies a lot from person to person.

The best diet is the one that works for you, is sustainable, and is focused on eating the healthier macros (complex carbs, unsaturated fats, high fiber, plenty of nutrients, varied).

I kind of touched on that.

I read a lot of stuff about health and fitness, and I think that most people agree that it mostly boils down to, "if you want to lose weight, reduce your caloric intake." The rest is all just how you decide to do that.

Some diets come up with reasons to not eat a particular food or type of foods, but it really just boils down to "eat less".

It's more than just "how you decide to do that" though. Some people have genetic variations that cause certain food groups, such as saturated fats, to increase triglyceride and LDL levels more than their peers. This would fundamentally change how certain diets would make them feel.

Some people have genetic variations that cause them to feel more or less satiated by complex carbohydrates, to tolerate higher levels of fiber, or will be helped more by the improvement in serotonin levels with a diet richer in fats. It's a disservice to call these "choices" - there is an interplay between nutrition and genetics that make a specific diet more appropriate for one person or another.

Even when it comes down to absolute energetics, there are drugs out there that can interfere with the usage of energy and cause a loss of energy to heat. While I do not know of any specific genes that might cause someone to lose more excess energy through heat, it would not surprise me if such a variation exists. Certainly some people fidget or expend extra energy through other means. Is it so hard to think that the composition of their diet may influence this as well?

This list really needs to be re-arranged. Hydration should come first, then exercise, then carbs, vitamins, anemia, diabetes, and finally thyroid issues.

Realistically everything after hydration and exercise is likely not the problem. If tiredness still persists after you've fixed sleep (sorry but 6h is not enough for most people), hydration, and exercise then maybe you should go to a doctor and let them try and figure it out.

Unless they also have stimulants or some other medication in them, I don't see how this is possible. Certain b vitamins will make your urine discolored (yellow) because you get rid of the excess, but they are not actually dehydrating you.

Can you elucidate on this or point me towards a journal article on this? I may be mistaken but I've never heard of or been taught of this potential side effect.

Just anecdotal, which I know is not great. I was told to start taking a multi-vitamin, and when my lethargy didn't improve, was sent for some tests. In the urine one, I was told to try to drink more and a nurse just mentioned that it was probably because of the vitamin that I was underestimating the amount of fluid I needed. She did give me an explanation, but I don't remember it.

One of the things that should separate Tildes from other sites is civility; I'm pretty sure that's right in the documents when you sign up. So please try to express things in helpful and constructive ways instead of... this way.

I attacked the content, not the poster - in my view that is precisely as civil as the situation requires.

You have three main replies. All three of them kind of touch on how you're wrong. Think about it, please.

I thought it was a good read. This article is informative, interesting, and challenges me to look at my own life and see if there are any changes that I can make to improve it.

I've been seeing comments like these a lot lately and I really think they are taking away from the community. I have been increasingly hesitant to make posts because I'm afraid I'll be chewed out for making a low effort post.

I am hoping that Tildes can be a safe community where people feel comfortable with posting and commenting. Comments like yours only add to a toxic environment. If you don't like the article, then just move on. Why do you feel the need to call it crap? I'd also like to point you to the tildes code of conduct that says:

Don't act like an asshole and routinely make other people's experiences—or lives—worse.

I'm going to remove it, because using header formatting for it was especially obnoxious.

While I agree it's low quality content that doesn't fit the site, you're part of the the problem if you think you don't need to be civil in your response.
