    From the article:

In a move that is expected to prove transformative to the national HIV-prevention effort, the federal government has announced that almost all health insurers must cover the HIV prevention pill, known as PrEP, or pre-exposure prophylaxis, with no cost sharing — including for the drug itself and, crucially, for clinic visits and lab tests.

For anyone who claims that politics doesn't matter, this could be life-transforming for millions of people across the U.S. It's a vast improvement to public health and a huge relief to anyone who's been dreading the risks of sexual contact.

The article does go on to note that enforcement is key - there are insurance companies still in violation of existing coverage laws for PrEP medications.

As a footnote, a judge in the shareholder case against Gilead just evidenced $1.8 million of scepticism about their delaying tactics in releasing corporate records likely to show Gilead's been blocking generic versions of Truvada.

It's kind of obvious isn't it...there's an old saying along the lines "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of the cure." Selling the treatment is more profitable than giving away prevention....

Selling the treatment is more profitable than giving away prevention.

This makes it a highly politicized matter, because in the end sustained cash flow is often deemed more important than public health. And ultimately it is the right-wing that pushes that agenda the most.

When I say that conservativism is evil, this is what I'm talking about. Because for my entire adult life (20ish years), conservativism has been equated with deregulation and profits over people.
