So this was never really a thing at my school (small religious school), but in the summers in my teens I'd go on a few youth retreats with my church. It was in the cafeterias of the camps these retreats were held at that I was exposed to this phenomenon.

In between complaints about having to go to yet another daily worship service and attempts to see how long we could hold a salt-covered ice cubes in our palms, we'd look over in awe as some "rival" church started slamming cups. And of course this usually invoked a response stacking from a different church and then eventually it'd peter out until the next meal when it happened all over again.

Those were good, simple times. Except for the daily worship services, those sucked.
