As always, I appreciate them trying new gameplay twists, especially if it results in more sightseeing.

By that I mean I don't know how practical it is to rock up, get your content, and move on. Do you have to hike for days to get to the nice places or can you just pull up in a car and get to work immediately? It's probably a stupid question, given there'll be a wide variety.

For now it's hard to be sure from the trailer but I think each team wants to control the contiguous cluster of states with the most states in it. They have to do this by taking on challenges in a restricted pool of available states in the hope that they will be positioned to connect them into a cluster later if connecting states pop up in the pool.
I like the idea because it seems like it might be very hard to tell who is winning until close to the end, so things won't get boring, as long as both teams are making good strategic decisions. That's not too different from the most recent season, really.
Pleasantly surprised to see Canada be part of this season (and their disclaimer about how nobody is trying to suggest that Canada be considered a state is _chef's kiss_).

Click to expand spoiler. Fun start! I wasn't expecting Hot Ones express. Looks like the timing for winning that first challenge got pretty close, and the river challenge segment was pretty funny....

Amy saying some of those people are very generous (...) cracked me up.

There's a really big imbalance caused by the luck of the draw in this game that's a little unfortunate. I initially thought the design of this game seemed balanced enough but that was assuming that fair randomness would yield fair results, which is of course not necessarily the case.
We'll see how it goes for Sam and Amy in the next episodes - not all is lost yet, I guess. The biggest problem is that if the right cards come up in the wrong order, the time and budget constraints might become insurmountable...

It would be a very different pace for sure.
I do not think I understand the game.
Does that matter?
Not at all! It'll still be fun

I'll figure it out, or not!
IIRC they also have a couple of secret state cards for their team. The card mechanics are modeled after Texas Hold'em.
