After ten long months of waiting, Dan Carlin has finally dropped Part 2 of his series on the end of the Viking era.

As background for those unfamiliar, Dan is the de-facto king of history podcasting. He was previously a professional radio talk-show host and news reporter, and went all-in on podcasting shortly after the medium came into existence in 2005. While not a professional historian (he prefers the title of "storyteller"), he has a degree in the field, and does months of full-time research for each show he releases.

Part 1 of this series is available here for free: https://www.dancarlin.com/product/hardcore-history-69-twilight-of-the-aesir/

As an additional FYI for newcomers, the Hardcore History feed is completely free on a rolling basis (usually the past ~10 episodes), and due to the format, those episodes cover several years of work and dozens of hours of content. The only ads he regularly does are Audible plugs, always at the end of the show. His paid back catalogue is available at dancarlin.com, and his magnum opus standalone episode is widely considered to be Prophets of Doom - for anyone who wants a good sampler.

If anyone wants to get in on this, @FluffyKittens already mentioned his standalone episode, but for his best series you should check out Blueprint for Armageddon. In which he takes you through the western front of the first World War.

I just wish he hadn't done his absolute stinker of an episode on the Trans-Atlantic slave trade. He's able to dedicate literal dozens of hours of episode time, and hundreds if not thousands of hours on specific, narrow subjects.

To see him dedicate a single episode, 5 hours of episode time, on a subject spanning hundreds of years and several continents, not to mention countless cultures... I dunno. He's able to dedicate so much time to other subjects, but evidently not this one.

I agree and this also applies to the rest of his "content" (which is what it is, "content". There's nothing wrong with content per se, but that's what it is).
