This simple website shows a pretend "live-count" of births and deaths. It's very striking to see the global human reproduction machine in action as several people born and die within each second....

It seems the site you gave has a bit more statistics on a per-country basis which is neat. It would be a lot easier to look through it with a few UI updates like adding commas to the population instead of 8217507421.

However https://rumkin.com/ just seems to be a passion project with a guy building whatever they want to which means you can't polish everything 100%, and this is a cool project!

That first website gave me a pandemic flashback. I was checking it a lot then.

You might enjoy reading Stanislaw Lem's short story, One Human Minute. This is precisely the kind of thing that book would have envisioned, but perhaps more expansive. Not just births and deaths,...

Woah... this book is a lot different from what I initially expected--but I really like it so far! Thanks for mentioning it.

Since the site started simulation from 2013, it's very interesting to compare with what the current count is.

    HK estimate : 7,896,574

HK SAR official census : 7,527,500

While this is fun to watch and is roughly accurate, the numbers do not reflect the real population. This performs a straight-line estimate for populations, assuming the rates do not change.

It's interesting because the straight line couldn't have foreseen 2014 Umbrella protests, 2019 anti-extradition protests, and COVID, to say nothing of China / USA happenings. It's not just a straight number count either, we have to look at population composition -- the age, education, salary and percentage of working professionals among people leaving vs people moving in.

It'll be interesting to see what's happening to the other countries, esp USA.
