I don’t really know anything about this specific issue, but I think there’s a reason for supporting this lawsuit on general principle:

The policy passed last month by the Chino Valley Unified School Board requires schools to inform parents whenever a student asks to use a different name or pronoun than what’s in their official record, or if a student requests to use facilities or participate in programs that don’t align with their assigned sex.

There are many situations where teachers should tell parents things that kids would rather their parents didn’t know, but I think teachers should be able to use their own judgement about whether that would be helpful and what they should disclose. This isn’t because teachers or parents always have good judgement, but blind rule-following doesn’t seem any better?

If both the teachers and parents in a kid’s life have bad judgement, having a lot of rules to follow about what to say doesn’t seem like an adequate substitute, because in practice, people won’t be able to remember and follow them all anyway.

(There are of course some rules everyone needs to train on, but they need to be kept simple.)

As a Canadian, I don’t understand why they don’t simply make it illegal for schools to out kids? Why the extra wasteful step of suing? Are they not the government of California?
