It is pretty striking how quickly trans representations in media has shifted over the last few years. I remember growing up watching a lot of the movie/shows depicted in this video where the trans individual was viewed as manipulative / deceitful for hiding their identity and their reveal is used as a "gag" where the other characters in the scene are so disgusted they throw up, and man have those clips not aged well at all. It is really disturbing how comfortable society at large was just being so hateful to a group of people that are already marginalized. I am glad that we are finally depicting trans people in media as actual humans worthy of stories beyond being a hateful joke or sex worker. There is still certainly a long way to go, particularly in giving these roles to actual trans people, but we have certainly come a long way.
I was also kind of shocked by how awful JK Rowling's writing was. H. Bomberguy and Angelina's readings of her text was hilarious in just pointing out how awful it was. The mean descriptions of how fat people were and the way she writes out certain accents were extremely cringey at best.
Yeah honestly I liked this video, it was up to Lindsay's usual standard, but I have no idea why she decided to lean on that gag so hard. It was disgusting and off-putting. I'd get if it was to...

I'd get if it was to emphasise the weird transphobic reaction of disgust that media displayed so often (seriously, what was up with that), but then I feel it's anvilicious. Like, yeah, trans women were always portrayed as literally vomit-inducing, I got it. The Family Guy clip wasn't necessary.
It's a bit too much, for sure. That said, it did get the point across in a way that's a lot more memorable and emotional than just mentioning it, so I get it. I do feel like Ellis is sometimes a...

I do feel like Ellis is sometimes a bit too willing to go in with making jokes out of just how bad something is. I appreciate that it means she doesn't tiptoe around awful shit, but it does occasionally come off in a way that'd probably be fine to do around a specific trans friend or something but is a bit flippant given how public it is. While I and a lot of other trans people I know are cool with it, I think I'd probably avoid showing this to certain friends for that reason. Minor in the grand scheme of things, of course.
(Incidentally, Katy has an excellent youtube series called (This Week in the TERF Wars)[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4meMZ8kXcC4] where she talks about the bizarre conversations she has with gender critical people on Twitter.

Take that vomit tag seriously, there's a LOT of it and it's fucking gross.
