I think I would prefer a bus, because maybe I could get it running again. But I totally get that a plane has more space. Are they well insulated?

The one thing that put me off was the absence of real windows. I'd feel trapped.

True, I bet they're relatively hard to cut through too, to add larger ones

I would assume so given the low temperatures of the air at the altitude they travel at. And they probably have great acoustic insulation too because of the engine noise, which would make living in them remarkably quiet.

The competing priorities here are actually kind of interesting! Most large aircraft run bleed air systems from the engines, so you’ve effectively got as much high pressure 200°C input as you like on tap, and past a certain baseline it can feasibly be more fuel efficient to save weight on insulation and make up for it with your jet powered HVAC.

As I understand it the end result after they work it all out is that the insulation is still usually pretty damn good, but with the weight and fire safety trade offs plus the megawatt level power systems it’s not as amazing as you might expect.

Ah, thanks for sharing your insight. I didn't know about that, but it makes sense, and actually sent me down a bit of a rabbit hole trying to find more info on airplane insulation and heating....

Although, sadly, it looks like there isn't a whole lot written about those topics meant for public consumption despite it being such an interesting subject. :(

I hadn't even thought about how quiet they must be, that would be cool.
