“I am a real man! The main bearer of the family and social responsibility in the future! The backbone of the Chinese people!”

“When one of them cries, we will definitely not comfort him,” said Mr. Guo, 30. “We will only encourage him to be strong.”

Being a "real man" won't save men who can't find a woman because parents got abortions as soon as they realized they were having a girl so they could try for a son under the "one child" laws.

This narrative about abortions is mostly false. CNN Article My mother and her brothers and sisters were enslaved by the communist party in China when she was a little girl so I hate going around defending China, but the amount of misinformation in the west regarding China and resulting in these opinions is just astounding. There are a ton of real issues in China, why do people like perpetuating the made up ones so much?

People in China by and large aren't stupid drones or anything. If there is a fine for having an extra kid, they'll just have the extra kid and not report it, it's as simple as that. As the saying goes "The mountains are high and the emperor is far". All western reporters had to do was become friends with a local and ask them, it's an open secret. If reporters go around not becoming friends with people and still expect them to tell them anything besides platitudes, they're living in a distorted reality.

China ended the 1 child policy in 2015, and the birth rates are still plummeting due to education and economic pressures, basically the same thing as Japan.
