As my relationship has been on the brink of failure for a few months now (age forcing me to face some lingering issues that stand between me and potentially starting a family), I've had to consider the fact that breaking up with my partner of 10+ years would leave me alone as an adult - something I have not experienced since my late teenage years.

Quite frankly, it scares me to death to consider not living with my partner, because I enjoy their company immensely, they have shaped my very being, and quite frankly, I can't remember very well what it was like to live without them - not truly remember the day to day; how lonely I was, what I did with my free time, etc.

It's nice that in this day and age it's easy to get into an online community and connect with people via voice or video, so I don't think that I'll struggle too much with loneliness for lack of human connection, but to have someone you know will always be there to listen to your problems and care about your day, your health, your well-being... that is something that I'm sure I will miss.
