Tildes Video Thread

So, quite a few people don't like/watch video content, and don't like seeing the homepage filled with videos. Let's try something new, see if it sticks.

What are the best videos you have watched this past week/fortnight?

I almost want one of these fibre laser engravers but they're not quite cheap enough yet. Marco Reps puts this one through it's paces, and takes it apart.

What exactly is the goop inside a lava lamp?

Also, would be a shame to miss the opportunity to show off the first video I've made for ages, the process of making my friend's wedding ring

James Hoffman's Deep Fried Coffee video was delightful, but then James Hoffman is just delightful. I really want to see him do a collaboration with Ann Reardon; they both seem like genuinely warm...

I can't stand coffee and yet I still watch a good three quarters of Hoffman's videos, just because he's knowledgable and passionate about his topic and that's rarely boring to watch. I agree him...

I agree him and Ann would be brilliant together. I'd also like to see him work with Morgan Eckroth because she seems equally genuinely pleasant and I suspect getting both of them in once place might cause some kind of Weird Coffee Person singularity to form.

I reread and realized that the wedding ring video was a video you made! What a cool process, cool video, cool concept. I really enjoyed it.

Thanks! The concept was by my friend but it was such a fun project to work on, I love challenges like that and I love to make jewellery for my friends (especially when they are paying!)

if Bo Burnham's "Inside" touched you this probably will too. i'll definitely be rewatching "Inside" soon because of this essay :)

    • Lily Alexandre—Cinema's First Kiss Was Between Two Women (38:52) (nebula/youtube).

could you imagine if repressive patriarchs today were fine with a lesbian kiss being filmed in a context where they thought that filming a straight kiss would be taboo? well, upper class academia in the late 1800s united states thought so! (but only because women were repressed even more!)

also, i do not have the words to state how lovely and touching the outro to this video is, especially when seen in the context of the essay.

    • Quality Culture—Lilo & Stitch is a Weird Movie (17:28) (youtube).

lilo is a weird protagonist by disney's standards, but we love that for her

    Linus Boman

Watched Linus Boman's great little video on the varying design aesthetics of royal cyphers and monograms. Being a graphic designer in a past life, it took me right back.

I learnt that Linus is Swedish, which was a pleasant surprise. And that I had actually watched some of his content previously. This video on Ryanair's airplane safety card, being transport related, explains how it finagled its way into my feeds!

Isn’t Linus a typically Scandinavian, often Swedish name?

It is indeed. I often don't process names like I do other facets of my life. 🙃
