How does this work? It's surprisingly on point with its tags.

@mycketforvirrad @cfabbro I'm interested in what you think about starting a tag like ai product, or some other tag, as a way to signal "the subject of this topic was built with, or uses, AI" so users can filter those topics without filtering all AI topics?

Something similar to the Brainmade mark, or AI labels:

      https://brainmade.org/

      https://ai-label.org/

Or maybe that's too much work, and just tagging it with the typical artificial intelligence tag is good enough?

Maybe tools.ai? Alongside an artificial intelligence tag.

tools.ai sounds good to me too. p.s. @paris, you should be able to filter that tag out now, if you want to avoid topics about them in the future.

I mean, if a book on the lists doesn't exist I'll find out in two seconds. I get the criticism but it's not like I'm looking for medical information here. I can deal with mistakes :P

I'm not sure what medical information has to do with anything. I prefer to not engage with anything made with LLMs, and would appreciate a tag so I can filter things built with it/using it.

I'm sure @cfabbro can add a tag for you to filter.

I merely wanted to clarify that book recommendations are not a sensitive matter requiring utmost precision as it would be the case for providing medical information and advice. In my opinion recommending an inexistent book is not a grave matter as it is unlikely to produce harmful outcomes.

I won’t wax on about the damage AI does both to art and the planet in whole, but will insist it does produce harmful outcomes, even if not in the sense you may have meant (as it would with medical information).

Again, I apologize for my rudeness to you.

Interesting! I'm guessing this is AI-based: is it using some kind of Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) approach? Seemed to work quite well for the couple of cases I tried it in.

In messing around with this, by searching The Dark Tower, I managed to get it to recommend me "The Dark Tower" with only three suggestion parameters!

Then, I redid the search to see if it was a fluke and it removed Dark Tower and reordered much of the list. If I'd expected that much change I would've made of the order and books but a fun recommender regardless. I'd probably prefer not having the Amazon links but I guess that's a feature many might enjoy.

To be fair, re-reading The Dark Tower is a pretty common pastime for people who have read The Dark Tower.

Cool. It's been a little difficult finding a lot of quality paranoia-inducing possession/replacement sci-fi like The Body Snatchers. It gave some well-known recommendations along with interesting, unique suggestions that I haven't encountered before. It is sometimes difficult to evaluate just how much of the theme I seek is actually represent in a book, so those seem like useful.

Your Recommendations. Preferred: Alien invasion, Paranoia-inducing, Identity loss.

    • Footfall by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle (1985).
      • Earth faces an invasion by elephant-like aliens, leading to a paranoid scramble for survival and the defense of human identity.
    • The Bohr Maker by Linda Nagata (1995).
      • In a future dominated by nanotechnology, a rogue molecule breeds paranoia and confusion by altering identities and loyalties.
    • The Night's Dawn Trilogy by Peter F. Hamilton (1996-1999).
      • This epic space opera mixes alien threats with political intrigue and paranoia as humanity faces both external invasion and internal identity crises.
    • Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler (1993).
      • Set in a dystopian future, this novel explores themes of identity and paranoia amidst societal collapse and alienation within human interactions.
    • The Forge of God by Greg Bear (1987).
      • An alien race's quiet yet terrifying invasion breeds paranoia as humans struggle to understand and counteract the impending annihilation.
    • The Rising by Brian Keene (2003).
      • An otherworldly entity's invasion manifests as undead humans and animals, leading survivors into a paranoid struggle to retain their identities and sanity.
    • The Risen Empire by Scott Westerfeld (2003).
      • An interstellar conflict sparks paranoia and an existential crisis as factions vie for control and individuals grapple with the erosion of their identities.
    • Pandora’s Star by Peter F. Hamilton (2004).
      • When a human starship inadvertently awakens a dormant alien menace, paranoia and fear of identity loss take hold in this sprawling space-opera narrative.
    • Spin by Robert Charles Wilson (2005).
      • Earth is enclosed in a mysterious barrier by unknown aliens, leading to global paranoia and a profound questioning of human identity and survival.
    • Survivors by Terry Nation (1976, TV series revival 2008).
      • Post-apocalyptic paranoia runs rampant as survivors navigate a world forever changed by an alien-induced plague, challenging their sense of identity and purpose.

Oh man, I was hoping for a whimsical web app that would recommend me some actual yogurt. Now I am disappointed.

Have you tried skyr, like Siggi's or Icelandic Provisions? Creamier and a little thicker than greek yogurt.

I don’t eat animal products anymore, but I have had one long ago. I should probably try to make some of my own one of these days….
