    Seems well-received.

I recently watched 2016 Warcraft and concluded that, while it is not great, it is certainly not as bad as many people think.

Fans probably wanted to see a movie that reflected what they imagined of the story, and not what it actually was. WoW is a very silly game with an over-the-top, ultra-generic storyline. Everyone wants their beloved franchises to be taken seriously, even if the only way to do that would be to betray the fact that they're totally goofy and actually not that unique.

So I'm pretty happy to read this:

When it comes to the fantasy genre that includes Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings, Goldstein, “there’s not a lot of laughs and there’s not a lot of fun, and that’s what we hoped we did with this film.”

I had very similar thoughts watching Warcraft's movie!

I'm really hopefully for this take, because regardless of what the actual story or quest is in DnD, the reason people play it is to play with their friends. And I have yet to play any TTRPG with any group that didn't involve heavily around making fun of the absurd scenarios we got ourselves into, and the ridiculous things our characters did at our behest.
