Plus, getting Ben Wheatley to direct it is a huge step up from Jon Turteltaub (the director of such classics as Think Big starring the Barbarian Brothers and a very 90s rap theme song).

I was surprised to learn The Meg was a financial success, I had kind of assumed it went the way of Sharknado. Upon googling more about it I was even more surprised to learn The Meg is the most successful U.S.-Chinese co-production ever at $527.8M WW beating the previous Sino-co-production champ, Kung Fu Panda 3 at $521.1M WW. Bigger than Kung Fu Panda!?!?!

I'm always in for a gargantuan monster movie so I will definitely be watching this. My only pause is that we're having some pretty significant shark fear stoking locally after a few attacks and I'm not excited for folks to have another, be it ridiculous, touch point against sharks.
