Well, that's the sound of my hype derezzing. Being in the computer world was made Tron interesting and unique. Now it'll just be "Jared Leto acts crazy in the real world."

While the two previous movies were largely set inside the world of computers and programs, the script for Ares, written by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne, is said to focus on the emergence of a sentient program that crosses over into the human world that is not ready for contact.

Jared Leto already acts crazy in the real world. Might as well film it ;)

It seems like a logical next step.

The first movie asked what would happen if a human got trapped in a computer.

The second movie asked what would happen if human-like lifeforms evolved naturally inside a computer.

So the sequel is asking what would happen if a computer-native lifeform managed to end up in the real world. This possibility was already teased at the end of Tron: Legacy.

I get more excited when sequels try new things than when they retread proven ground.

I'm sick and tired of Jared Leto. Dude is a super creepy self-styled cult leader. He's not THAT good of an actor to justify supporting him.

Just looked up a recent picture of him, I would say he is looking like your stereotypical cult leader.

He's fine in Blade Runner 2049, but that's mostly because he's playing a...well, stereotypical cult leader/hyperrich CEO.

I am not sure how I feel about this sequel and go through the same process every time new information pops up. I'm trying to keep an open mind. I feel like Tron Legacy was a really interesting love letter to the original while also treading new and interesting ground. The premise of this film doesn't feel very Tron-like. I also can't imagine a score that comes anywhere close to what Daft Punk did in Legacy. Then there is the glaring issue of Jared Leto but I won't get started on that.

The music was the one of the best elements of the film. I still recall that fight scene to this day and listen to the soundtrack every once in a while. Sadly, even if Disney wanted to get a new track from a talented artist, I doubt that we'll get anything similar to what Daft Punk composed. Their 'farewell' clip on YT was sad but understandable; Disney took too long to get this film into production.

Let's hope for the best from whoever has to fill in those shoes and wish them luck.

Evan Peters has been cast in the upcoming Disney movie Tron 3: Ares, which is set to begin filming in August in Vancouver. Peters will star alongside Jared Leto, who has been attached to the project for several years and is set to play Ares, the manifestation of the program. Joachim Rønning is directing the feature, which has been in development for over a decade.

Not many credits to their name as director, but Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is a rather substantial one.

I am rather excited, and hesitant, at this entry to the story, but any story would be great. Personally think an Alex Garland or Denis Villeneuve take would be ideal, but I understand that they are busy.

“We shot a storyboard movie on Tron 1. One of Disney’s Nine Old Men was still out at the studio,” he recalls. “I was so excited to show it to him because lord knows I could have used a mentor at that point. I showed him our storyboard movie. He sat there, he watched the whole thing, and then he turned to me and said, ‘Kid — you’re on your own.’ And got up and walked out of the room.”
