When they announced the Phase 2 runs with some of my favorite characters, Black Panther and Captain Marvel, I was really pumped and excited. But this announcement actually fills me with dread.

I'm perversely interested on how Disney is going to do an X-Men movie while trying not to step on anyone's toes and making it as mass market as possible.

Personally I’ve had marvel fatigue since End Game. I’ll still go to see Spiderman movies but that’s it. Haven’t seen anything else since then because of me not caring and also just being tired of Disney superhero movies.

They mistakenly thought that the comic book formula would work for movies, and the reality is that it won’t. People like me who don’t care about comics get tired of the same movie formula over and over again. And don’t get me started on the multiverse stuff which just cheapens everything and removes what little risk was left in having definitive moments in story telling.

Except, oddly enough, the Spiderverse films. They have so much more depth than the MCU, and as far as I remember, have avoided any kind of time travel deus ex machina to cheaply undo high stakes things. The multiverse angle is pretty much lamp-shading the many retellings of the Spider-Man archetype. Characters have moved between the parallel worlds, but time seems to march forward linearly.

As a fan, the latest FOX X-men didn't do much for me. I am very excited with this new phase, as I consider X-men to be a universe of its own and not really affected by any "Marvel fatigue" I might have. The X-men core themes of difference and fight against discrimination are extremely relevant right now, and I hope they make good use of that. X-men should be a bastion of progressiveness.

I firmly believe Storm should be a transwoman played by Laverne Cox.

The thing that made the MCU stick the landing in my opinion was that Phase 3 was a lot of good movies one after the other. Phase 2 had a lot of listless wandering around as well, and was it not able to course correct, we would have been having a lot of the same conversations back then about this whole thing going nowhere. Guardians providing something of a micro franchise to be able to keep attention and Civil War being a better Avengers 2 allowed for a lot of grace that phase 4 and 5 just don't have right now.
