King fu panda 4 itself has done $177m worldwide so far, significantly less than Dune 2 so far.
It's the correct use of semi colon in the context, but people don't read headlines like that. Would probably have been fair game if they'd compared Dune (1 and 2) with Kung Fu Panda (1-4). The new...
It's the correct use of semi colon in the context, but people don't read headlines like that. Would probably have been fair game if they'd compared Dune (1 and 2) with Kung Fu Panda (1-4). The new movie is pretty mediocre and it seems like an underhanded way to generate hype for it.
I don't think Deadline has any vested interest in making sure Kung Fu Panda has hype. This is a pretty standard headline for them, truthfully. Like this one from last month which gets four movies...

for KFP4 specifically:
With Monday’s business counted, KFP4 is at $86.8M internationally (this includes China previews – the movie officially releases there on Friday, March 22). The global run through Monday is $196.7M.
for more info: Domestic opening was under $60m and current domestic box office after 2 weeks is $100. which isn't great, but KFP4 was made much cheaper than KFP3 (145m vs. 90m). Also, Kung Fu panda always crushed it in the international box office, and seeing them hit almost $90m internationally before the Chinese premiere on Friday means it'll probably do very well.

"Woah! Dune is doing great but the newest kung-fu panda is doing way better! I best check that out too!"
Is how I imagine they expect that to go.
It's not comparing them, it's just listing two box office details

Like this one from last month which gets four movies in the title: ‘Bob Marley: One Love’ Still On A High At $121M WW, ‘Anyone But You’ Romps To $200M Global & ’Poor Things’ Nears $100M; Korea’s ‘Exhuma’ Has Scary Good Opening – International Box Office. It's just providing a very direct run down of the content inside the post.
Actually, your headlines point out my exact criticism.
Why include the entire franchise? That seems like an odd choice.
Because the article it's attached to is highlighting the franchise's box office earnings.

Either is enough to bail Donald Trump out. Just saying...
