Road House (2024)
What a fun movie. It doesn't try to be something it's not. Jake G went all out to get in shape for it. Conor McGregor plays the perfect psycho. The humour is spot on.
Yes, the main event would leave the average human dead, so would half the other fights. The fight sequences look very real, it doesn't look like they're missing each other by a foot.
The story is light hearted. It's a tale told time and time again, but I really enjoyed this. Would recommend for a pop-corn and mates night.
After seeing the Joker trailer and thinking of La La Land, I decided to watch it for a second time. Does this also loosely connect to Whiplash? Yes! Verne was fired from the school and came out west for a new life. Not his first time -- he starter over after leaving Oz.
Anyway, great film. I like that they did the dances and all mostly in one shot like the ol days. Classy play. The Planetarium scene alone is just... great. I'm not a sucker for this shit at all, but in this case, I am powerless.
I'm assuming you know this but just in case, Whiplash and La La Land were both written and directed by Damien Chazelle.
I unabashedly love La La Land. Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling are two of my favorite actors and they just ooze chemistry in this movie. The soundtrack rules and the choreography owes so much to classic musicals. It feels very timeless to me. The ending makes me tear up every time -- perfectly bittersweet, just the way I like it.
ha yeah , definitely. So far everything he's put out has been really strong.
With the score, I love how much they did with the core of Mia & Sebastian’s theme. Its magical. Have you seen The Umbrellas of Cherbourg? It was a big influence and is also worth a watch.
I haven't but I'll definitely check it out!
Last week I got to see Titus (1999) for the first time on the big screen in 35mm. From what the announcer mentioned, the last time this was shown in theater was 10 years ago at a German film festival. It quickly became my favorite film adaptation of a Shakespeare story. The whole cast was spectacular and were all obviously having a bunch of fun.
Harry Lennix as Aaron in particular really stole the show every time he was on screen. He also got to utter Shakespeare's single best line ever, "Villain, I have done thy mother."
Watched the last half of "Til vi falder" (Until We Fall - 2018) a couple of nights ago and it stuck with me. The weirdness and lingering scenes. I can certainly see why a lot of user reviews on IMDB found it boring and pointless but I loved the slow pace and intensity. Seems like it could suffer from the same fate Speak No Evil did for a lot of non-danish may even non-europeans. They simply can't relate to the people and way of movie making (to be even more snarky it's just too real ;)).
Sometime last year, I watched Rise of the Planet of Apes which I hadn't seen since its initial run in theaters in 2011. I remembered thinking it was a bit cheesy but enjoyable overall, and I did enjoy the rewatch. However, my impression of the movie at the time was not enough to get me back to theaters to see the sequels. This time, though, I wanted to follow through. Unfortunately, even though I checked every couple of weeks, I could not find the sequels streaming anywhere.
And then finally last week Hulu added them! I sat down last night and watched Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and was kind of blown away. This movie surpassed its predecessor in just about every way. This is a legitimately good movie -- not just a good Planet of the Apes movie or a good sci Fi movie, but just good cinema. The score is excellent, the story is well paced and tense all the way through, the acting --especially the voice/mocap acting -- is terrific.
I wish the movies didn't have such dumb names though. I get the first two confused constantly because Dawn really sounds like it should be the prefix for the first movie in a trilogy, not the 2nd. Anyway.
My only little quibble is that I don't really believe that Caesar and only Caesar saw Koba with the gun in the camp. That's easy enough for me to overlook though.
Yeah Dawn's awesome. There's a reason it's considered one of the best blockbusters of the 2010s. I remember the hype and the word of mouth for that was insane at the time.
Just a heads up, War for the Planet of the Apes is slow. It doesn't really feature much action. So be prepared for that change in pace.
I saw the original Planet of the Apes a few years ago, but I didn't care for it. I didn't think it was smart or entertaining enough to have the reputation it has. I think Rise was the first ever good movie in this franchise.
Tbh I feel like the name confusion is almost an homage to the originals which give minimal clues to their order in time
