Worth noting that there are some who are hesitant it because they feel it humanizes Trump too much. And no matter how you slice it, the central character of a movie is the one whose humanity is in focus.
The people voting for Trump know that he's a horrible person. It's not news. It has been exposed numerous times, each time with the naive belief that people just didn't grasp it the last 100 times, but this time they surely get it.
I want to support the movie, but I am sick of hearing about felon Trump.
Can I just send my $15-$20 to the producer directly?
Anyone have an address? :-)
I know this isn't their usual process, as it seems they are more integrated with the film making, but it sounds like a perfect candidate for A24. I'm surprised that's not discussed in the article unless I missed it.
A24 passed on it along with Apple, Amazon, Netflix, Searchlight, Focus, Lionsgate, and HBO. Whoever picks it up is gonna have to deal with legal headaches, and when you consider the film received mixed reviews, it's just not worth it for major studios.
Legal headaches? I admit I just skimmed the article but I missed that part. Seems like they're afraid of potential revenge from Trump and like you said the movie probably just isn't that good.
I get the appeal, shitting on Trump is pretty hot right now but maybe this movie is just one of those cash grab types that just came out of the oven too soon.
Trump sues for defamation a lot. Whether he wins doesn't change the cost of defending it
Trump has threatened legal action, I think there were reports that French producers/distributors have been on the phone dealing with lawyers.
The big crux of it is that there’s a scene where Trump rapes his former wife Ivana.
Super skeptical this is doing anything to move any needle anywhere. This story or the movie itself. IMO at this point the only win is not saying his name anymore at all.
