Why not? The whole sequence of events is classic Hollywood. In act 1 you've got the team checking out a cave on a field trip. The cave floods trapping them inside. In act 2, you have the team trying to stay alive while authorities organize a rescue effort. They're low on food, potable water, and fresh air. In act 3, you've got the dramatic rescue in which heroic aid workers retrieve all of the players alive.

      It's a perfect feel-good blockbuster narrative.

While I think everyone can see it could provide for a good story, it does seem a bit soon considering someone died during the rescue. I guess that's how the world works but it doesn't sit well...

This is really my feel of it. Considering its speed, I can't help but think someone was following this whole event planning out a movie, and basically looking to capitalize on it. Kinda poor taste.

Iirc, there was a made for TV movie about the Chilean miners within 6 months of their ordeal. The Thai kids are orders of magnitude more appealing because its kids and “normal” people that didn’t expect this to happen. The sooner they can churn something out, the better off they are because it’s still fresh in people’s minds. As technology progresses, it wouldn’t surprise me to see groups sending in drones/cameras in order to live streams similar to how local news treats police pursuits.

The drones is an interesting note. If the divers have body cams, we'll probably see that.

You don't see this as Hollywood cashing in on people's suffering? A man died, his family is mourning, and those boys didn't exactly take a pleasure cruise for two weeks.

Of course I do, but let's face it: monetizing misery is the new American Way. They don't call them "exploitation films" for nothing. After all, we have movies like Alive.

Nah, any Asian can play a Thai person as far as Hollywood is concerned. Plus they can throw in non-Asian a listers as the heroes that save the kids. Most people will accept replacing the Thai Seal divers with someone like the Rock, or smaller parts to people like the brits who found them with a well known actor or two. A movie like this can focus on the rescuers and rescue effort rather than the kids to pull in the actors/actresses they want

Seriously though, I did wonder about how "white" this will end up. If the focus will be completely on the divers, or if they'll actually be on the children (who will be any Asian, if they are kept Asian at all).
