That's some good news right there

revealed that the first script will only focus on the first half of the novel. This confirms an earlier report that Villeneuve plans to adapt the book across two movies.

That's some good news right there

It is by far the movie I'm most excited for.

Related, Jodorowsky's Dune is a great documentary about the other almost-amazing attempt at adapting the book, even if the project did fall through it's exciting to think what that crew could have made together.

I also love Villeneuve's work. He's a very talented director. What are your thoughts on Lynch's Dune?

Overall, I think it's a bad movie that I really enjoyed watching.

It's been a long time since I've seen it or read the books, but I recall there being a lot of little details that I really liked, Lynch has an undeniable flair for strikingly weird and memorably disturbing imagery, and it was great to see someone like him even attempt to bring the world of Dune to the big screen. So, while I enjoyed it, I don't really think it succeeded either as a standalone film or as a particularly good Dune adaptation. It is certainly the most memorable and ambitious version I've seen so far.

I'd love to see his rumored original 9 hour version though; it seems like any time I almost love a movie (book adaptations especially), most of the problems could have been fixed with a longer format.

Interesting. I didn't knew about the 9 hour version. I also like it as a weird-ish movie, but as an adaptation, not that good.

Frank Herbert's sprawling sci-fi epic is being made into another movie.

Don't they mean "yet another" movie? How many times is this going to be re-made? "If at first you don't succeed, try and try again." Every 15 years, another director is going to have another go at filming this book, and, every 15 years, another director is going to make another flop - is this what we have to look forward to?

Maybe there's a reason the previous versions were crap. Maybe the book really is unfilmable. Not every book has to be made into a movie or television series (yes, I'm looking at you, all you producers who keep buying the rights to 'Foundation'!).

I preferred Lynch's style of Dune to the newer one but the newer one was closer to a literal adaption but didn't really capture the feeling of the universe. I feel like Villeneuve could strike the balance and finally deliver a film that people wouldn't feel the need to remake it.

I really think dune is filmable but the technical aspects just weren't there until recently it was almost there with the made for TV version but the budget wasn't. Probably an unpopular opinion but a tastefully done 3d version could be amazing if it we're to give a better sense of scale and depth.

Villeneuve is definitely my favorite director right now. Also, I finally know how to pronounce his name thanks to him introducing himself on the Blade Runner: 2049 Blu-Ray specials.

But the Blu-Ray was still an instabuy for me. I saw the movie about 6 times in theaters.
