I've avoided coverage of the game for the most part. which I tend to do for most entertainment. I don't like having high expectations for something and then getting let down. I should be able to tell from the initial buzz how the game actually is, and as long as it's not a complete disaster, I'm sure I'll enjoy it.

Jankinator LinkI wonder how this will affect the MCU longterm. Disney can still cash in on GotGv3, but I would imagine it'll be hard to sustain success after that. Just like opponents of the #MeToo movement want sexual assault allegations to be proven guilty in court before anyone passes judgement are fine with immediately condemning Argento on the basis of an allegation and an out-of-court settlement.

The biggest challenge I see for modern officiating is balancing human and video review. I think video review is a pretty great tool, but using it can take momentum out of a game, affecting the players and coaching staff, as well as the fan experience.
The NHL recently implemented the possibility of video review for several things, including offsides calls (entering the offensive zone before the puck does). This was done after several blown calls where a player was in the zone well ahead of the puck and scored. In reality, the reviews were used for examining matters of centimeters and milliseconds difference, which have no real impact on the play and doesn't really fit the spirit of the rule. The reviews slowed the game down tremendously with lengthy breaks. And some super blown calls still got through.
I think the two biggest things for video review are figuring out for what situations it is needed and beneficial to making the correct call, and also figuring out the best way to seamlessly implement a video review system.

Jankinator LinkThe Leftovers is my favorite show. Only 3 seasons and 28 episodes to boot. The first season struggles a bit, but finishes with a strong second half. Seasons 2 & 3 are masterpieces. It is certainly the most emotionally powerful show I've ever seen. I think about it on a daily basis.

I can enjoy a reference that works well in context, but nothing annoys me more than a bunch of unrelated references.
