They wanted to do "more of the same" but somehow, perhaps inevitably, it ended up being weaker than the original. Fantastic Beasts is like that: You get more stories in the HP world so it's enjoyable but it's just not the same :/

I grew up with the Harry Potter books, so I was hesitant about a series of movies that are only loosely based on the books. But J.K.Rowling is heavily involved in the movies and it shows.
Really enjoyed the first one, but I wish Colin Ferrel and Johnny Depp's roles had been switched. I feel like Johnny Depp is just too schticky for that role. Especially in multiple films.

It wasn't breaking any new ground in cinema but it was a fun potterverse romp. If you liked the other films you'll dig the new franchise.

I am on the fence about Depp, but I guess we will find out if he is a good fit or not soon.
Is the Harry Potter ? Looks like Harry Potter.
Same universe, the Fantastic Beasts movies are set a few decades before the events of the Harry Potter series.
