Solo: A Star Wars Story discussion
Have any of you seen Solo? Possible spoilers if not.
Personally, I loved it. After having been dissapointed by The Last Jedi, Solo was refreshing, in my opinion it felt like a classic Star Wars film. I loved all the characters, including Ehrenreich's potrayal of Han which I fully bought.
Also the humour, compared to The Last Jedi, was far better. Whilst there weren't many laugh out loud moments, I was grinning throughout. And I far preferred it to the eye rolling cheesy jokes of TLJ.
And as someone who has watched the Clone Wars and Rebels series, I loved the reveal of that certain character.
Of course there were some cons, but they were relatively minor, in my opinion. The opening was a bit rough, and I got a bit confused at the end with the constant changing sides. And to be honest, I didn't really care for Marauders.
What did you guys think?
I'm quite the opposite tbh, was rather underwhelmed by it.
I didn't really buy Ehrenreich's version of a young Solo.
Solo x Qi'Ra relationship is kinda cheesy to me (probably intentional).
I don't think it has a strong story too, just a laundry list of lore from previous movies to be filmed (winning the millennium falcon from sabacc game, kessel run in 12 parsecs)
The Marauders were weak. Dryden Vos was kinda meh.
I suppose it's not /that/ bad. I still enjoy the 2 hours, but it's not a great movie, just an OK movie with plenty of fanservice.
I can agree with you on the story. Whilst it was fun, it did lack some depth or significance to it, especially compared to Rogue One.
What imparticular didn't you like about Ehrenreic's version?
I just couldn't connect his Solo to Ford's Solo, I suppose.
I had issues buying Ehrenreic's Solo too. He just didn't feel as naturally charismatic as Ford's to me. He seemed like a fanboy that practiced Ford's signature Solo mannerisms.
I agree with all you mentioned. It was entertaining enough, but also completely forgettable, since it really didn't add that much to the lore, unless you care where he learned to do that fancy gun twirl.
You can use asterisks instead of the forward slashes for italics. Like this.
Thanks!
I loved it, it was joyous and small in a way that really took advantage of the edges of the Star Wars universe.
Donald Glover was perfect, I liked the younger and dumber Han, and that robot was the best.
Who was the character from clone wars?

We don't have official spoiler tag support yet but it's definitely something we know will be required soon. In the mean time you can just use mouseover messages like we used to on reddit back in the old days, e.g.

= mouseover for spoilerI think it's really awesome to see Disney acknowledge the prequels/Clone Wars series! Hopefully the average moviegoer won't be too confused.
I think a lot of people did haha. Only about half of the screen room was full, though everyone there seemed to enjoy it.
Leading up to almost all of the recent Star Wars movies, I'd see trailers and reminders but like you I didn't even realize it was out until I saw it here. Maybe they're underhyping it expecting a poor reception or maybe people just have a growing ambivalence towards the franchise with other high budget sci-fi/fantasy options available to them?
Yeah, same. And it's not like it was because I didn't like TLJ or anything (I loved it), Solo is just the most underwhelming and boring concept for a Star Wars movie possible.
I actually loved it. Much better than The Last Jedi. References to previous movies weren't spotlighted, the new characters were interesting, and the plot refreshing.
It was by no means perfect. The cinematography and pacing were in particular subpar. But coming from someone who had zero interest in this movie on the drive to the theater, I thought it was very enjoyable.
would maybe tag this with
[spoilers]
I saw it on Tuesday and definitely enjoyed it. I'm glad they stayed true to a lot of the EU Solo backstory
As someone who has followed The Clone Wars, Rebels, and what I have time for in books and comics, I loved it. Obviously there’s some problems, non more so than how cringey it was to watch an officer contemplate.....Solo......but it showed an awesome side of the universe: the rich gangsters. I even loved L3’s punk teen feminist personality, and the messages about colonization on the desert planet. I don’t se how it was really forced like other reviews have said, Star Wars, at least since the prequels deals with imperializaion when the Empire is shown (cus like, empire!)
But the best part was the tecognition of lore that has only existed in the animate series!
I thought it was actually a pretty solid movie, definitely better than Rogue One in my opinion. I thought Ehrenreich and Glover were great. The cinematography was a bit iffy in some places, but I wasn't nearly as bothered by it as some people were. Overall, I thought it was a really fun space adventure.
