Legend of Galactic Heroes is the most wonderfully dense and sprawling space opera I've ever read or watched. It has such an interesting way of zooming right out to survey the economics, politics and war of billions of people and then effortlessly zoom in on some tiny minutiae of a single person's life and then zoom right back out again.

I've never quite seen a story with a scope of this size before.

I'm concerned that Europe & the US, weakened and distracted by internal political strife, may not act, even if something awful is captured on video.

You don't need a graphic to break up text. You can break up text with space.

However I would argue that, although the internet has allowed humanity to speak collectively, it has slowed the pace at which collective decisions are made.

Edit: not sure how this got double posted, soz.

I'm catching up on season 5 of Vikings and I'm very much enjoying it. Vikings is an odd beast though, and I do have some mixed feelings about it.

In one sense I am happy The History Channel is making content like this, rather than Ancient Aliens or some such thing. But on the other hand it is clear that much of the minutiae present is not 'historical' even though the overarching narratives are.

I wish there was some effort to explain what is and isn't fictional. I used to watch a French cartoon called 'The mysterious cities of gold' which included a little 5 minute documentary that explained the real historical discoveries that had inspired the events depicted in the show. I feel like something similar could be worthwhile here, although I guess the history is only a Wikipedia search away...
