I'm actually glad for this. Here's what I'm hoping for: (Some Solo and Rebels spoilers) Boba Fett works with Jabba in the future, and Han is going to tatooine to work for Jabba. I'm hoping this...

I'm actually glad for this. Here's what I'm hoping for: (Some Solo and Rebels spoilers)

Boba Fett works with Jabba in the future, and Han is going to tatooine to work for Jabba. I'm hoping this movie features a short cameo from Han, but more importantly, Jabba's crew ends up having some kind of feud with Crimson Red (which Maul becomes in charge of). Maul ends up going to Tatooine, and at the end of the movie senses the presence of a powerful Jedi, Obi Wan Kenobi.

It is canon that 2 years before Yavin (which is also before ANH) Maul and Obi Wan have a fight on Tatooine, in which Maul learns of the existence of Luke Skywalker before shortly dying. Have an Obi Wan movie immediately following the Boba Fett movie, showing Obi Wan living on Tatooine, watching over Luke, and facing Maul. Bam, new prequel trilogy right there. Hell if you want to, 2BBY is still before Rogue One, so tie it into that somehow. Maybe have the emperor send a message to Darth Maul regarding the status of the Death Star or something.

Just a bit of fanboying, but still, Disney could pull off something great here.

I'm in the same line of thinking.

I think we'll be seeing a few things with the Star Wars universe that will be lifted from Marvel, and we're seeing the 1st bit of this in the Solo movie. Disney is going to expand upon the SWU, and create their own EU but with films and TV shows.

Marvel has become a worldwide phenomenon by linking something like 20 movies into one cohesive universe, and Disney now wants that and Star Wars to do the same thing. What I see happening, is going to be something like:

Skywalker Stories (OT, prequels, sequels) being wrapped up, but introducing more areas to explore.

EU films (Rogue One, Solo, Calrissian, and now Fett) being used to link the bigger picture events that're background in the Skywalker films and give them a life.

EU shows (Unknown Farveau project) will be used to explore groups of people in the EU in a more intimate sense. I'm HOPING this means we're going to get a Rogue Squadron tv show.

Essentially, what I think Disney is doing, is they're going to take the EU stuff that was good and recreate it, and throw away the trash and get rid of the bad stuff.

It should mean we have decades of amazing star wars movies coming up. :)

Exactly. I don't think Disney can just keep on jumping ahead 30 years and making trilogies, and I think they know that too. Marvel has a thing going for them, and I think that showed Disney that people will watch a movie just because it is connected to a franchise that they love, rather than just because it contains specific characters that they enjoy. Hopefully this leads into more movies in the future.

Disney seems to be taking parts of the EU and modifying them to fit their needs. All of the major points of Han's backstory (the Kessel run, winning the Falcon in a game of sabacc, growing up on Corellia as an orphan, meeting Chewbacca) are the same, but differences are made in order to tie in other characters (such as Darth Maul through Crimson Sun) and just modify the story in general (Chewbacca and Han's early relationship, for example)

In a lot of ways, it's the same way that Marvel adapts a comic book story. The main characters and events are similar, but everything else is different to fit the tone and world that other movies have already setup. I have high hopes for this new Star Wars universe if Disney can keep on doing what they've been doing so far with Solo.

We can't be certain, but I definitely hope Disney follows the Marvel Model with regards to Star Wars. I'd love there to be 2-4 Star Wars films a year. It's absolutely one of my favorite cinematic universes and it has the audience for it.

Agreed as well. I think that for the next few years we're still only going to get 1 movie per year, but after the TV show launches I think Disney is going to go full in on Star Wars. Marvel is...

Marvel is probably going to slow down a bit after Avengers 4, in order to build up another threat over the course of 10 years. During that time Disney might try to focus much more on Star Wars, and maybe even tell some of the old republic stuff, since you have a large amount of stuff there you could tell.

If we had Old Republic stories I'd literally shit. TOR was one of my favorite games I've ever played, so if that came to be I don't even know what would happen.

Boba Fett has always been one of my favorite characters. He was already effortlessly badass in the films and then the EU made him even better. Add onto that the fact that the director apparently working on it has some pretty solid credentials (making Logan, for example), and I'm excited.

Part of me wants to see it set post-ROTJ, just so we can have canon confirmation that he survived the Sarlacc. On the other hand, having it be a prequel and tie in with the reveal at the end of Solo would also be really cool. I definitely think that they have a lot of cool places that they could go with this.

Out of all of the original trilogy characters, I think that only Boba Fett and Darth Vader would be ones I would like to see a stand-alone movie of.

Oh boy, I'm getting Star Wars overload. I haven't even seen Solo yet. As long as they are good, it ought to be all right.
