Also, the music videos are great. I enjoyed the eating of the ak47 at the end of Blood of the Fang

Here are some of the highlights and obscurities of what I've listened to over the last month+:
Ephel Duath - The Painter's Palette. Jazzy blackened hardcore.
Equilibrium - Sagas. Epic speedy folk metal from Germany. If you listen to only one song of theirs, I would recommend track #3 Blut im Auge.
Esoctrilihum - Eternity of Shaog. This one-man black metal band from France is prolific as hell and I haven't listened to all his works. An interesting mix of black/death/folk.
Estuary - To Exist and Endure. Fast melodeath from the US in the vein of The Gallery-era Dark Tranquillity. Listen to track #6 The Evershielding.
Eternal Storm - Come the Tide. Melodeath from Spain.
Evergrey - The Dark Discovery. Power/prog from Sweden. I prefer their first five albums before their sound stagnated, but to be honest I haven't tried listening to their most recent ones.
Fatal Embrace - Shadowsouls' Garden. Melodeath from Sweden. Despite sounding similar to the other Swedish melodeath, there are hints of Opeth as well.
Fragments of Unbecoming - Skywards: A Slyphe's Ascension. Melodeath from Germany. Their whole catalog is top notch but I have a soft spot for Skywards, the first album I heard of theirs. Check out track #2 The Seventh Sunray Enlights my Pathway.
Gallowbraid - Ashen Eidolon. Atmoblack from the US with a strong resemblance to Agalloch. The title track is one of the best songs I've ever heard.
Garden of Shadows - Oracle Moon. Melodeath (kinda) from the US that was ahead of its time, also reminiscent of Opeth.
Geddy Lee - My Favorite Headache. Solo rock album from the lead singer/bassist of Rush.

Ohhh yes. If you haven't listened to Consecration of the Spiritüs Flesh yet, I highly recommend that album in particular (especially if you want an Esoctrilihum record that is constantly and heavily blasting). It's one of the more aggressive releases from them and still super strange as usual and I love it.

Heck yeah! Also, huge thanks, I came back and revisited your post and Garden of Shadows and Gallowbraid are huge finds! Never knew about either (despite knowing about their members' more popular later projects, Gallowbraid member being in Visigoth and Garden of Shadows member in Dying Fetus)

Especially loving Gallowbraid- even getting some Woods of Ypres (big fan) vibes from it

I'm not going to list a tonne of tracks, but I've moved away from Spotify's recommendations and started listening to the radio again in a big way. I listen to a lot of rock / metal so I'm back to Kerrang and its goodness.

There's something really lovely about just having music on and knowing I don't have to immediately judge as good / bad by using my skip function. They've got a great blend of older rock (AC/DC / Motley Crue / etc...), Nu-metal (Limp Bizkit, KoRn, Spineshank...) and then some newer stuff.

My wife is a big emo kid at heart, and I think she's appreciating that Fall Out Boy comes on a lot.

But it feels genuinely liberating to just bang the radio on and not really have to think about "oh, am I gonna like this?" with music.

Most of the automixes seem to be all AI generated and are super repetitive, and exactly as you stated require concentrated feedback to craft better playlists (which then doesn't seem to be useful).

Some disclosures, I haven't tried very hard to figure this out and I'm using Deezer these days and mostly just listen straight through albums (which has been pretty fun).

Honestly? I think Radio & Streaming are subtley different. Streaming allows this constant feed and expects a face, a voice and a character. Radio kind of doesn't allow for that. IT allows a voice sometimes, a character all the time and a face none of the time. It doesn't make for a good stream... not as we conventially know it.

Plus, I wouldn't put it past one of these firms who 'revolutionise' by basically just making services more accessible calling radio = streaming.

Heartsing by Jeremy Blake, better known as "Red Means Recording" on YouTube. I follow him there, Spotify recommended this album, and it was a great way to spend a drive to work. He wrote it entirely on the Dirtywave M8, a hand-held music tracker, and just did a great job on it. It really made my morning.

I don't normally do musicals, but I've been more or less obsessed with The Dolls of New Albion series for the last week. It's ruining my ability to listen to music. I usually throw my youtube music supermix on shuffle and listen to whatever, but I find myself putting Kyrie and Blood Red Dogs and Annabel's Lament in the queue instead of the usual, you know, normal music. I wanna sing along with Styx and Rush but find myself chanting 🎵doll-ay, doll-ay🎵 over and over.

I don't even know enough about musicals to know if it's a particularly good one, but it sure does make my brain release the good time chemicals when I listen to any of it

Me and a friend were discussing our mid-late teen years last week and got onto the subject of MySpace, hot scene girls and how we'd have been counting our blessings if we managed to get into their top 8 back in the day haha.

Then we got on to the subject of the song that was on all of their MySpace profiles at some point, Wow, I Can Get Sexual Too by Say Anything. We then started chatting about other great bands from the time that we haven't thought about in a long time, You Me at Six, A Day to Remember, Death Can for Cutie and then we settled on Man Overboard, discussing how good their 2010 album Real Talk is.

I think the song Real Talk from the album is my favourite, it's less than 2 minutes long but it's got a great melody, a super hooky chorus and lyrics that perfectly bring out my inner scemo.

Really transported me back to that period of my life when I was 15-21 years old.
