When I was a kid, nobody would watch the Eurovision. It was boring, songs were way too cheesy and votes were rigged. In the nineties it became camp and popular in the gay scene. For some reason it has completely gone off the rails and has become way too popular in the last decade.
Can someone explain why it is fun to watch? All I see is terrible performances beating somewhat tolerable performances. Nothing stands out in a good way.
It’s like watching a bad movie intentionally.
Nobody does it fully sober, we have drinks and snacks. And the best local commenters are really snarky and funny - adding to the entertainment value. (Like Graham Norton, who seems to get more and more drunk himself as the show progresses)
We all know the show is “rigged” because too many countries still favour jury votes and thus vote for the “moral” winner or the most artistic. Like last year. Sweden won because their entry was so professionally polished it lacked any personality - while Finland was overwhelmingly the crowd favourite.
Wait, he actually won? I'm sorry, Finland, but I don't get this at all. And I'm a bit annoyed that the bookies rate this higher than Norway's song.
The people (all 32.3% of them) have spoken!
...clearly an overwhelming popular vote on account of the pants-free performance gimmick...
Yeah, it’s tacky, but
Spoiler?
I will admit that I laughed at the dramatic jorts moment.
I simply presumed it was down to Finland's unbridled love for Windows 95™.
I admit I watched the whole thing only because of the Windows 95 reference and am utterly disappointed.
I'll have to watch some old Steve Ballmer vids now to make up for the lack of M$ shenanigans...
If you’re on the hunt for actual vintage-Windows-inspired music, well then I’ve got just the thing.
Perhaps this video will help scratch the Windows itch for you.
