Vaxis II, the Coheed and Cambria album from 2022 is the perfect mix of pop banger and driving prog instrumental for us right now.

The songs are catchy and layered enough to have them live in our brains rent free for months.

Nice! That's also a pretty relevant album for you.

Yeah, it sure is. We saw them play in Calgary late last year and having spent the Christmas break blowing through the comic series, I feel like there's no escaping CnC in the immediate future.

I just bought the soundtrack for Hazbin Hotel. I can't help but love musical theater, and it's all the better when it's animated. This soundtrack has a lot of flourishes and themes that are hallmarks of the music in these kinds of things, but listening to it separately from the context really brings out the differences between the "good" and "not good" tracks. The ones that are more modern pop in style are the best, but the ones that call back to older musical styles don't quite stand up as well in comparison. Which is not to say that any of them are bad, of course.

Some of the songs are on the Vivziepop YouTube channel, but it doesn't have my favorites.

Trance mixes for the gym since I went back. It is helping to get in a zone. I am digging it in a functional way.

I was at a concert with a Danish artist called Jacob Bellens yesterday (he sings in English, if you want to give him a listen).

His music is a mix of melancholy and hope, and his voice is quite unique. It was my first time seeing him live, and it was a great experience. He’s a bit of weirdo in a good way, but I left the concert on high. I talked to him after the concert and got his autograph on his newest album on vinyl.

Anyways, this is just to say that please go listen to artists live. It’s always great. I’ve learned to love so many more artists by going to live shows, even when I don’t know the artist or didn’t like them very much initially. Seeing music live is wonderful.

I'm annoyed I didn't really discover KNOWER until last year. I had heard a couple of their tracks over the years, including their collaberation with Pomplamoose (who I've long been a fan of) but hadn't sat down and really listened before they started dropping videos for the recent album.
