    I saw Primus last weekend, so I've been going through their discography this week. Really wish they had vinyl pressing of one of their Farewell to Kings cover shows.

    Other than that, I picked up Mint Jams by Casiopea on vinyl earlier this week and I was introduced to AFØNK which is a little far out at times but still quite groovy.

      Oooh jealous. Please, can you let me know how the show goes? I always wanted to see them live.

        It was an amazing show. It probably goes without saying that System of a Down like.... just fucking blows everyone else out of the water. But I went for Viagra Boys and it was super worth the effort. They have such a fun stage presence and the crowd was really into it. The saxophone player is hilarious I think he just likes not wearing pants in public. I hope they come back and do a longer set, it really felt like they were just warmed up and then it was over :( But they were up there with some pretty huge bands so I get their set being a bit shorter.

        I would say, a hundred percent worth seeing live if they come within driving distance. It took me 4 hours to get home and I wasn't even mad, I would do it again.

    I've been refining my metal and electronic favourites playlists that have been my primary go-tos for a while now.

    Rivers of Nihil (prog tech death) - I got into them when they exploded in popularity with Where Owls Know My Name and, no surprise, most of my favourites are still from that album. I unfortunately didn't care that much for their follow-up The Work, but in particular "The Void From Which No Sound Escapes" has joined the ranks. Their album preceding Owls, Monarchy, I already really liked but I listened to a bunch of times to pick out my favs (the title track, and "Dehydrate").

    The Ongoing Concept (prog? metalcore) - tough to pick favourites for me with this band as they have pretty consistent quality, but their biggest flaw to me (though I'm sure there are those who wouldn't consider it a flaw) is the rough high scream vocals. When I listen to them for a while I can get over even "Saloon" (mainly because there is a lot of other cool stuff going on in the song), but I think it'd be too jarring on a favourites list. Making matters more challenging, their latest album Again is a bunch of reworks of existing songs of theirs where they mix in even more musical styles. The songs are changed significantly enough to sound like entirely new songs in some cases, with a few familiar lyrics. Eventually I picked out "Amends Again", "Failures & Fakes Again", and "Prisoners Again".

    Porter Robinson (complextro, electropop?) - Spitfire is more representative of the kind of music I like and seek out (esp. "Unison" and it's remixes), but in the albums following he switched to a more emotional style with vocals/vocaloids. Some songs really got their hooks in me ("Sad Machine", "Fellow Feeling", "Shelter" [esp. the music video], "Look at the Sky"), but I still feel like they are mostly out of place in my playlist.

      His style definitely has changed significantly since Spitfire, but I think Worlds is still one of the best albums I've ever listened to.

    In April I followed Squeaky Feet around to a few shows in the Southeast. Revisited my favorite of the bunch, this set in Augusta, GA on 2024-04-19.

    Set list:

    1. Lucky Number 29:29
    2. Progress -> 34:21
    3. Outer Ring > 31:54
    4. Progress 08:20

    Favorite track was "Progress". The section around 7m30s to 24m30 has a beautiful melodic build and a very hot peak. "Outer Ring" gets way out there as well. Really awesome show. If you give it a listen, I can't say you'll care much for the vocals, which is mostly an issue with the first song, but it's easy for me to overlook for the quality of the instrumentation.

    Was happy to get around to the new King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard album this week. Really dig their exploration of sounds. Not my favorite album of theirs, but it's quality nevertheless.

    For DJ stuffs, really digging this One Tribe Festival Promo Mix Summer 2015 set by DJ Garth. Chugging, psychedelic dance music.

    A new Dark Tranquillity album is out, and it's nice. It's not as amazing as their old albums, but it's definitely worth checking out.
