Help with a playlist : )
I love all kinds of music, but am unable to play everything I like at work.
If anyone here has the desire to introduce me (and anyone in this thread) to some beloved stuff that may not be familiar, I would appreciate it.
As my name suggests, this is in a restaurant, so it would just have to exclude anything too introspective/atonal/delicate, and anything too speedy/loud/without melody (curses and lewdness are fine with my boss, though, interestingly enough!)
I would certainly listen to that sort of stuff, personally, though so please be free to include it with caveat.
No offense to artists who are household names and near it, but I am sorely tired of all the songs I've heard before, and my coworkers are never going to leave out the early 90s Madonna, so I am just trying to mix it up!
Is there a particular genre / sound you're looking for? I could throw music at you for days, but being able to narrow it down a bit helps lol
hey, i think you replied to the wrong person :)
Oops, sorry!
I tried to stick to catchy/upbeat stuff since this for a social event.
Thank you so much. I am only familiar with the Shakes, so this will be fun.
I don't know if kpop is too familiar to you, but if not there is a band that could be perfect for this (specially because of the early 90s Madonna thing with your coworkers since current kpop is pretty heavily influenced by that style/era between other stuff).
Red Velvet is a kpop girl group that initially had a dual concept style: a red side, more cheerful/upbeat/brighter/"bubblier" and a velvet side more slow pace/softer/rnb/melodic/"mature". Recently they mixed up this and now their songs try to incorporate both sides always (sort of speak). I think the softer songs could be used in a restaurant, of course it depends on the type of restaurant.

You can find here a list of the official music videos on youtube, and their music is on Spotify, Google Play Music and Apple Music.
Wow, thanks, my only K-Pop familiarity is from when I eat Korean food. I will check it out. I really don't care about the genre, as long as it is good/fun/interesting/listen-able.
Going to check all these out!
I really like Jess Glynne and some old Nelly Furtado songs, but they might be too slow for what you are looking for. Let me know so I can tune my sugestions :)
I will check these out, thank you. Slow is cool if it isn't whisper-y and spaced out too far (long silent parts). Really just looking for anything that you like listening to, so long as it isn't too harsh and speedy, or clownishly loud, ha ha. Thanks again!
I stumbled upon this little gem recently. Kat Edmonson - Old Fashioned Gal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnsB4Ri2oIY
Thanks! Smooooth voice!
Thanks! I love 50s. I don't really have a preferred style of music. We are a pretty busy spot, with all kinds coming in. Not a quiet, fancy spot at all.
Like others have said, you may want to narrow down what you're looking for. I love a lot of different kinds of music, but it would be pretty jarring to go from thrash metal to folk. I'll try to give an array, let me know if any fit the direction you would like to go.
*Wavves - Hippies is Punks
*The Feelies - Raised Eyebrows
*AJJ - Sad Songs
*Antarctigo Vespucci - You Don't Scare Me!
*Black Kids - I'm Making Eyes At You
*The Front Bottoms - Backflip
*Miami Horror - Sometimes
*The Radio Dept - The Video Dept
*Teen Girl Scientist Monthly - All Around
*Starfucker - Atlantis
*Deerhunter - Breaker
I'll cut it off there since that's already a bit, but let me know if you like any in particular and I can expand.
Thank you for your suggestions!
I am actually trying to expand and not narrow at all, haha! So anything you care to promote to me is welcome.
I want to make the playlist as catholic as I can. We are a pretty busy spot, so plenty of hip hop and big sounds are ok, but as I mentioned, thrash (speedy and harsh) is out, because it isn't really appreciated (people need to be able to converse).
Have you heard of Chris Stapleton? He's a unique-voiced and talented country singer (in my opinion). I have not listened to many of his songs, but here are the ones that I recommend. They are slower songs that relax you very easily (but don't make you sleepy!). Here are some songs I like by him:
Thank you. I mostly have listened to older country. I will check him out.
I have really liked the Wicks Playlist
Thank you, I will check it out.
Some Kora ?

That is awesome. Thank you.
Check out Toumani Diabaté, he's one of the best:

They come from a Griot familly.
Thanks!
As many others said before me there are endless possibilities and hard to choose from.
Personally, most of my music is rock and therefore I will only focus on music that works well as background music.
NieR Automata OST
This might be an odd choice, but it can be quite enjoyable. It is not intended for the listener to understand the lyricks (they are in english, french, gaelic, japanese and others). The voice is used as an instrument. Most of the songs are relaxing and blend in well in the background.
Most fitting would be:
Evanescence Bring Me to Live on the more aggressive side, but still a very enjoyable song
Linking Park: Many good songs
Queen: I'm going slightly mad as an underdog
No Doubt Don't Speak
Halestorm Familiar Taste of Poison one of the slower songs she has
Gorillaz Feel Good Inc.
Coolio Gangsta's Paradise
One-T + Cool-T Magic Key
Bastille Pompeii
Jay-Z Run This Town
Twenty one pilots Stressed Out
The Temper trap Sweet Disposition
Emily Browning Sweet Dreams
Just Jack The Day I Died
Nik Kershaw The Riddle
Muse Uprising
Kwabs Walk
The Cranberries Zombie not only a good song, but also has great historical value
Wow, I put more work iinto this than I have time for ^^
In the end, I didn't took it very exact with "Background music", but maybe you can still find fitting songs in there
Thanks! That's a lot of effort, and I appreciate it. I will check these out.
