Have been using Linux for 20 years now. I have seen a lot of distro's. For a while now I have been using Ubuntu for server, and Solus Linux for desktop.

Not space opera, so maybe not exactly what you're looking for, but I really really enjoyed The Flicker Men (by Ted Kosmatka).

Although I am a happy Protonmail user I thought it would be fair to mention that the author woud benefit if his statement were to come true.

I do think he has a valid point. There is a tipping point where people become a little more aware and products/services/companies/sites that cater to the sentiment. It's not legislation that will cause people to switch to services for which they are not the product themselves, but a sentiment that is slowly growing.

Is ad-based internet dead. Not by a long shot, but it will have to adjust. My preference would be no ads and not selling my data. But how many people don't give a damn, because it is 'free'?! Still to many. I don't mind paying for a social medium. For a community site. For news. For my email. But that does add up and not everyone is in the financial position to pay for everything. Protonmail does have a nice free service. And ytou pay if you want something more.

But will that result in a 'split' internet? 1 for the 'poor' who will have to sell their privacy or be excluded or miss out on a lot of features, and one for the 'rich' who will buy their privacy and have all the better options? I know that is already the case, online and in real life (and not illogical as more money just buys more stuff) but will the gap grow ?

    One of my lazy favourites:

    • A bag of pre-sliced 'chinese' stirfry vegetables (often includes cabbage, string beans, bean sprouts, onion etc)
    • wholeweat noodles
    • marinated tempe cubes
    • a small bottle of black bean sauce.

Apart from boiling the water, it takes approximately 6-7 minutes to create a dish for two for (I think) about 7-8 euro.

It's been a pretty great year so far. Been to the theater, museum, concert. Watched some great movies. Took up programming again. Bought myself a nice mechanical keyboard (the last one I had was in the last millennium ;-) , an old IBM), which I am very happy with (for the nerds: it's a Leopold FC750R PD (grey/blue) with Cherry MX Brown switches). And I made a reservation for a 10-day silent retreat end of this summer.

The one thing that did not really succeed were my piano lessons. I had some time planned for practicing, but once I started, some other cool stuff had to get some priority and my practice faded away. But I am very happy with how my life is right now. How was your first half of the year?

A "growth investor" is basically a big pocket of money that wants to resell in a couple of years for at least 150% of what it paid for it. That's what it will be doing: Growing for the sake of growing and increase value in money. Often, that results in less people having a job and products/services that are not focused on quality but on attracting more clients/users, which will increase the short-term value. I hope this will not be the case for Suse.
