If it wasn't for the date on that video I would honestly have believed that was from the late nineties, in the same vein as Run DMC vs Jason Nevins, Elvis vs JXL and all the rest of those "let's bang a 4/4 beat under a classic tune and chop up the vocals a bit" kind of tracks. Fairly sure there's a script in Pro Tools for doing that at this point.
I still think my hypothesis that there are no bad versions of Jolene (by professional musicians) holds but oh so barely.
To my mind, the greatest ever cover of this song is the White Stripes version. It sounds completely different and yet somehow expresses the emotion of the original way more intensely.

Lingua Ignota did an interesting version. Miley's is the definitive version as far as I'm concerned. There are videos out there, sadly with terrible audio quality, of her and Dolly singing it...

That Lingua Ignota version is the most interesting take I have ever heard on the song. Thanks for sharing! And yeah, I was tempted to link to a video of just Dolly and Miley singing it together...

And yeah, I was tempted to link to a video of just Dolly and Miley singing it together too, but there doesn't appear to be any really good quality ones available on YouTube. This is the best I could find: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6H4r1kWqSM
I don't know that I would have chosen Jolene for this music video... But the beat be kinda infectious & I have no argument with the dancing. I've always seen this song as being from one woman to...

I've always seen this song as being from one woman to another, with the man being kinda incidental to the conversation. So it was nice to have the video focus on the women dancing together at the end instead of whoever the dude picking at his food in the beginning was.
The fact that this was posted on Dolly Parton's official VEVO channel is pretty awesome, since it probably means she has seen it. p.s. Seeing the House Shuffle/Jump-style dancing brings back memories.

My other favorite is by Pentatonix, but that isn't necessarily a cover since Dolly is one of the singers. :P
And all of the above even sung it together for The Voice, too.
