This should be international news, not lifestyle of women, where we talk about make up and high heels right?

“I went to the police but felt more threatened there,” she said.

There's so many things that have gone wrong here: people-groupe on people-group hate and violence; use of fake news as justification for violent revenge; the state turning a blind eye to turf wars or even being the cause of if; lack of proper law enforcement on a systemic level; mob violence; horrific misogyny from men AND women.

    From BBC article

Rape has long been used as a weapon during conflict.

In most large-scale incidents of violence - the 1947 partition of India, the 1971 Bangladesh independence war, the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, the civil war in Sri Lanka, the 2002 Gujarat riots, to give just a few examples from South Asia - appalling instances of sexual assault and gang rape have been reported, with the scale of the brutality sometimes uncovered only decades later.

Same article directly blames "State apathy".

What needs to end, adds Ms Farasat, is the culture of impunity that gets strengthened with each successive incident.

"It's not just mobs, but also authorities such as police officers and politicians - everyone needs to be held accountable."

Rape as revenge on a people group doesn't happen unless women are seen as property of that people group. A different article comments that their "culture of victim blaming is one of the reasons rape has too often become the weapon of choice for young men who feel emasculated due to frustration with their employment situation, familial relationships, and societal pressures."

It might seem far away but over in the rest of the world, if women's bodies are viewed as a resource which belong to men, or to the state, violence using women's bodies as proxy are sure to increase. This is the core of why incel is such a horrific culture: frustrated young men are taught, and reinforce the notion amongst themselves, that certain men can easily obtain women's bodies while they didn't get their fair share of this entitled and "necessary" resource, so their hate and cheering on of violence to right this "wrong" is justified. This is the kind of people who would vote in politicians making laws to further objectify women's bodies, and they're increasingly not an extreme fringe, joining other "trad wife" types.

So, I saw life.women as equivalent to lgtb where people could publicize specific group related abuses targeting that group. But as long as the content is seen...

I think this is definitely an edge case. On one hand, this article by definition is an important woman issue, but it also touches on the social and political climate of India including an broiling ethnic conflict so ~news is similarly appropriate. And people might not want ~life.women to be a place about misery.

        Shrugs.
