Honestly, knee-jerk obstructionism seems much easier to me than building a functioning government and prosperous country.

I don't know if its difficult, it seems to work out pretty well for them. Probably easier to work with, since you don't have to abide by anything except your own gain.

Petty tit-for-tat and political theater, along with fed shutdowns, to try to fool their constituents into believing they are actually doing something.

This inquiry is to fool the dumber Reps in the Freedom Caucus into thinking they're getting their way. If he gives them this inquiry they might not shut down the government, even though McCarthy knows this inquiry is going nowhere. If he had any faith in the inquiry whatsoever, he would've brought it to a floor vote like he said he was going to.

Disappointing that the article doesn't seem to mention that so far the Republicans have yet to find a reason for an impeachment. Although they did include this bit:

Speaker Kevin McCarthy said Tuesday he is directing a House committee to open an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden over his family’s business dealings, launching historic proceedings ahead of the 2024 election.

Disappointing that the article doesn't seem to mention that so far the Republicans have yet to find a reason for an impeachment. Although they did include this bit:

McCarthy holds just a slim majority in the House, and several Republicans have said they see no evidence to warrant an impeachment inquiry into Biden, especially amid all the other challenges facing Congress.

They also struggled to find a (legitimate) reason for the last averted shutdown.

Typical deflection and diversion from Hunter Bidens crimes by liberal mouthpiece (checks notes) the Republican Party.

McCarthy is launching the inquiry on his own, without a House vote, as he may not not have enough support from his slim GOP majority. Some Republicans have panned the effort as unwarranted, not seeing evidence that reaches the Constitution’s bar of “high crimes and misdemeanors.

I haven't seen anything like that, so this just looks petty and histrionic, and worse, cheapens the mechanisms of our government that are supposed to hold those in power accountable.

The current crop of Republicans seem to have a real knack for that. They said the same thing about Trump's impeachments, but then refused to even hear evidence on the Senate floor, which seems a greater mockery of our Constitution to me. It shows how little they actually believe in the document that they refused to do what it says to do when they thought it really mattered.

Will the Democrats do the same now that roles are reversed? If the Blue Fairy grants McCarthy his good-boy wish and he gets a vote of impeachment, will they throw it all out the window and admit none of it matters? I wonder...

Can we say is plainly? Republicans do not care about the United States of America. Republicans only care about the Republican Party.

Seems to me like a big bag of nothing.

“House Republicans have been investigating the President for nine months, and they’ve turned up no evidence of wrongdoing,” said White House spokesman Ian Sams.

The White House and others pointed to McCarthy’s past statements when he insisted a speaker could not unilaterally launch an impeachment inquiry or it would have no legitimacy.

McCarthy “flipflopped because he doesn’t have support,” Sams said.

Not surprised there... it took 15 rounds of voting before he could finally get enough support to be appointed Speaker.
