Weekly Israel-Hamas war megathread - week of April 15

This thread is posted weekly - please try to post all relevant Israel-Hamas war content in here, such as news, updates, opinion articles, etc. Extremely significant events may warrant a separate topic, but almost all should be posted in here.

Please try to avoid antagonistic arguments and bickering matches. Comment threads that devolve into unproductive arguments may be removed so that the overall topic is able to continue.

Activists on social media called the Tax Day demonstrations a coordinated day of economic protest against the Israel-Gaza war. Among the banners that protesters unfurled across the country’s highways were calls to “stop the world for Gaza” and for the United States to stop sending arms to Israel.

UK shot down Iran drones to de-escalate conflict, David Cameron says (The Guardian)

Lord Cameron added that the UK did not support a retaliatory strike, echoing US President Joe Biden's comment that Israel should "take the win".

    ,,.

The Israeli military confirmed it had intercepted the majority of the attacks - mostly outside of Israel's airspace - with the help of other countries.

Attack drones were intercepted by the RAF in Syrian and Iraqi airspace, where it was already operating with the US as part of the Operation Shader mission against the Islamic State group.

Lord Cameron confirmed the UK's role was to "backfill" for the US and the RAF had agreed to shoot down Iranian drones if they came through that airspace.

The Ministry of Defence has not said how many RAF Typhoons were airborne, nor how many weapons it shot down.

Israeli war cabinet to hold third meeting on response to Iran's attack (Reuters)

Israel's war cabinet was set to meet for the third time in three days on Tuesday, an official said, to decide on a response to Iran's first-ever direct attack, amid international pressure to avoid further escalating Middle East conflicts.

There are other news articles interpreting this as indecision or internal disagreement about what to do. It doesn’t seem like anyone who knows is talking?

Most of the world doesn't want Israel to escalate, and god knows hitting an embassy is "starting something", but I'm very curious how the average citizen feels about retaliation after that attack.

Continuing the “what should we rename this topic” discussion, perhaps “Middle East conflict megathread” would be suitably general, given recent news with Iran?

I agree, "Middle East conflict" makes sense. It's beyond just a war with Hamas, but not quite open war across the middle east. Hopefully it doesn't turn into the Isreal-Iran War. Edit: typo

I would, on the other hand, argue that it seems there is no longer a need for a thread about it? Maybe it's for ease of moderation? Because they get very little attention usually:...

I like having a place to post things without grabbing too much attention. Maybe biweekly, though.
