Offbeat Fridays – The thread where offbeat headlines become front page news
Tildes is a very serious site, where we discuss very serious matters like popes, bethesda and minimalism.digital. Tags culled from the highest voted topics from the last seven days, if anyone was befuddled.
But one of my favourite tags happens to be offbeat! Taking its original inspiration from Sir Nils Olav III, this thread is looking for any far-fetched offbeat
stories lurking in the newspapers. It may not deserve its own post, but it deserves a wider audience!
Magic Circle readmits magician who disguised herself as a man, 30 years later
The Guardian – Jessica Murray – 24th April 2025
I have a whole different reference point when someone says, “30 years later”. Glad that she got her well deserved recognition.
Cat trained to dial 911 was able to save their owner when they were having a stroke
So I won’t post anything on my fav topic ;-( ok - got it.
My contribution to odd news, comic on comic special. Larry David satire piece in The NY Times My Dinner With Adolf. After reading it and thinking about it, I thought it would have been great in The Onion but NYT; on the fence on that one.
For those who don’t know, it’s been understood that this was a direct piece targeting Bill Maher dinner with Trump and Bill’s book report on the dinner. Also, you should know that Larry is a great admirer of Bill - so it wasn’t a random jab. After reading the opinions on the satire piece I at least found one that I think is the best. Lefsetz Letter I think captures the spirit of the comic on comic special. TGIF!

I read the comment on my post of last week, and the poster is correct. That topic has been on my mind too much, somewhat of a trigger I may say. Maybe too much, so I do appreciate the coaching. No biggie, I come here to post on odd news and read what others find odd, so it’s all good. Just acknowledging the coaching.
by the way, didn’t know it has been posted before - my bad. I thought it was a funny odd news entry given it’s comic on comic jabs. The opinions on the satire piece I think are just as interesting.
