Offbeat Fridays – The thread where offbeat headlines become front page news
Tildes is a very serious site, where we discuss very serious matters like linux, rockets.reusable and louvre. Tags culled from the highest voted topics from the last seven days, if anyone was keenly observing.

stories lurking in the newspapers. It may not deserve its own post, but it deserves a wider audience!

London Underground driver sacked after knitting and watching videos at the wheel
Metro – Brooke Davies – 15th June 2025
I personally think while this looks bad, it may work the opposite. Meaning that this may have helped the operator focus better.
As someone with ADHD who knits in meetings to help focus, this is not the way.
Operating large, fast, heavy machinery is not the time to have both hands and part of your brain occupied. If you need movement, medication, sound canceling headphones, there are ways to accommodate this sort of thing, but I don't knit while driving my car, even if it can be easy for my mind to wander.
World cheese record. I am an admirer of anyone who goes the extra mile:
Say cheese! Over 1,000 people attended the world’s largest cheese tasting in Colombia
