This is the weirdest year.
Trump would be the worst ambassador to extraterrestrials, especially in a lame duck session.
He totally would have blabbed about extraterrestrials if the government had verified information.
The world could use some "next step of evolution based on harmony with the universe" right about now.

I don’t know what I expected, maybe something actually alien, but that’s ridiculous.
It's apparently not even a solid hunk of metal. Just 6 sheets of metal joined to form a cuboid. You'd think if someone were to go to this sort of effort of setting up this elaborate mystery,...

It's not the monolith itself that I find most interesting; It's the fact that people already managed to locate it despite having so few clues, figure out roughly when it was put up using satellite footage, and even get out there to visit it already despite it being ~10 miles from the nearest road, which itself is not all that easy to get to or navigate down. That and its neat that it has apparently been there for so many years without anyone noticing it until now, which is a nice reminder just how big the US is, and how remote some parts of it still are.
As for people going out to visit it, I totally get that too. It's an excuse to get out of the house, and go somewhere remote and beautiful, to see something unique and slightly mysterious.
It's all of a quarter mile off a dirt road in a straight line. There's a paved road that leads to a well used dirt road that is a few hundred feet off an obvious and easy path straight to the...

It's all of a quarter mile off a dirt road in a straight line. There's a paved road that leads to a well used dirt road that is a few hundred feet off an obvious and easy path straight to the monolith in an old riverbed. I'd put it at a half mile hike along nearly flat land.
Ah, if that's the case, then that's not really all that remote or difficult to get to at all. I was basing the ~10 mile distance off a PSA style warning someone posted to /r/UtahMonolith a few...

Been there long enough for aerial photography to catch it, send to map makers, and the maps to be uploaded.

Or not... year's not over after all.

And this is exactly one of the reasons why Leave No Trace principles are important. This monolith should be removed.

Well, we don't know if they're not aliens...
My money is on it being a coverup by the subterranean lizard people!
