I follow some vintage baseball groups on Facebook, and it's been fascinating to watch the contortions people will go through to be upset about this. Lots of objections about how it was somehow easier to get good stats in the Negro Leagues, or that it's apples and oranges because they never faced the rest of MLB (which conveniently ignores that most of the American and National Leagues never faced each other before 1997).
