24 Hours of Le Mans running right now
The 24 hours of Le Mans is about 6 hours in! Anyone watching? Thoughts?
Besides the hour-long safety car during the rain, it's been a lot of fun so far. It's my first year watching after getting into F1 and Indycar in the past few years and I'm having a blast.
I've been closely following the Jota Hertz 963 and man it's been pain haha. So sad to see the car crash and lose about half its body work. The Jota team quickly got the car back out but its down a few laps so hopefully they can make up places quickly.
Oh man, yeah, that was a tough one. Incredible how quick they got it back out though!
I don't really have a dog in this race (besides just wanting the NASCAR Car 56 to finish) so sending you good vibes for Jota
Yeah its a miracle how they got it out quickly and only 4 laps down. The Garage 56 Nascar is also one I've been following. It's so weird seeing a Camaro amongst all these other racecars. I've seen a few videos from people at the racetrack and you can tell when the Camaro goes by because the engine is just thunderous compared to what everyone else is running.
Appreciate the good vibes for the Jota!
I've also been pulling for Jota, I feel your pain lol. Lots of race left though! These random spots of rain have really made things interesting.
Yeah this race has been amazing to watch because of the rain! I've only been following WEC for a few years and I can't remember a Le Mans as interesting as this years.
I'm loving just how close the top pack is this year (up to now). Lots of action on track, and I'm a bit bummed that Aitken had quite the crash in the first lap because I genuinely hoped he would have a better race, but alas, that's part of running in such conditions, Cadillac has enough time to recover. Same can be said for Jota, they were having a lovely race up to the crash.
Go Italian Jesus!
Did you happen to see when the #33 Corvette ran over Fabio Scherer's foot? I caught him hopping over to the cockpit during driver change. Commentary referred to it but didn't say how it happened. Wonder if he had stepped over the line or if #33 ran over that also.
I just heard in the commentary that Ben Keating apologized to him for breaking his toe, so it might've been driver error but I'm not sure.
What a race though! Super impressed with Ferrari AF Corse, they held up immensely well under all that pressure and looked like they've been doing this for years.
I can only imagine how bad he must feel. It did sound like it was a wholly accidental incident but I still haven’t seen the clip.
Oh man, I freaked after #51 spun in sympathy at the first(?) chicane, forgetting they’ll scoop the car out of the gravel. Had F1 rules on the brain.
And a shoutout for Garage 56. Super cool seeing a stock car out there. Dead last but I bet Button and Johnson had a great time. Can’t recall the third driver.
What a race! So exciting for Inter Europol to win the LMP2 class on their first try. And next year having Alpine, BMW and Lamborghini all entering cars in the Hypercar class is going to be awesome!
I'm always more excited for WEC racing versus F1. I like the idea of a car having issues, limping home to the garage to get fixed and then still heading out to compete in the race! the #33 Corvette won the race after having issues!
In F1 these days a broken front end plate or extra ~5 seconds in the pits can mean the end of the race and while I get that's what makes it the pinnacle of motorsport I think it also really makes for less fun.
Go Alpine!
