Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix 2025 - Results
Overheard in the Cooldown Room:
Piastri: "That's all the highlights? That's all that happened in that race?
Norris: "Nothing happened. I didn't think there was one overtake [laughs]."
Piastri: "For a race that felt like it was pretty flat out, nothing...nothing happened."
Haha, never change, Oscar. Never change.
I'm going to bed.

Kind of meta, but would you be up to actually start the formula 1 threads on Fridays so that the qualifying rounds' results (& discussion about them) are also included in the thread?
I mean, the rest of my family is really into F1 though I don't watch it myself (I have neither a TV nor an online F1 subscription), so the discussions in these Tildes threads are my main way to stay informed and have a clue of what they're talking about in our group chat :P
For sure! I can try next weekend's Bahrain race. I'll put a reminder in my phone to start it on Saturday. And I'll start it before quali begins. We'll skip the Free Practice sessions, though if there's interest in the future, I can start the thread even earlier.
I think I or someone else once tried the r/formula1 -style separate discussions for quali and race day, but we sadly have so few F1 fans around here, it made more sense to just do one post-race. But maybe we've got more fans since.
While Yuki's quali kinda took the winds out of his sails, him finishing P12 from P14 is pretty close to where he needs to be. Would've been nice to at least see him in the points at like P10, but I'd still call this is a success. At least compared to Lawson's performance in the first two races in the RB. If Yuki can get into the midfield points regularly, I think he'll be good. Obviously he'll eventually need to start skirmishing in the Top 6, but let's give him some time.
Speaking of Lawson, that was a poor showing in the other, other White Bull. He finished down in P17 from P13. That said, I didn't watch his race -- I don't think he wasn't shown on broadcast at all -- so not sure if that's just typical White Bulls strategy screw-ups or what. Either way, not a great start for a Formula 1 career. But maybe he'll pick it up going forward. First race post-swap; let's see what happens.
On the other hand, Hadjar finished P8 (starting P7) and scored his maiden points, which is a great showing for a rookie!
It was disappointing that the Ferraris couldn’t squeeze the Mercedes so Hamilton could have a shot at overtaking them both to finish behind his teammate. It didn’t seem like Leclerc was ever going to be within range of Piastri anyway and no one else was getting any passing done on track… so why not back them up into Hamilton once he had pitted for softs?
That's a really good point, it would have made excellent viewing. Perhaps it's the risk? Russell is no slouch, it'd be quite difficult to back him up plus his teammate all the way to Hamilton (which I appreciate wasn't all that far for the most part). I think Ferrari are quite risk averse, though. Mclaren too, as it turned out, I think, when they didn't use their 2-to-1 car advantage to try and ruin Verstappen's race. At the end of the day, though, if the medium tyres are barely going to lose pace and the undercut is pretty feeble, it's quite hard to do anything with that advantage in the end.
Was out until 12:30AM on Saturday, and decided to watch the race before I went to bed. Boy was that a mistake.
If I hadn't been messing around with a new phone I bought, trying to get it activated and data transferred over, I'm pretty sure I would've fallen asleep. Honestly, I barely watched any of the race, even though I had it up on one of my screens. I watched the first few laps, Max and Lando's little drag race out of the pits, and like the last 5 laps or so. I'd occasionally glance over, see nothing was happening, and go back to what I was doing.
Drivers weren't exactly enthused either.
