This is probably my favorite Magnus video from the last few years. It does a really interesting job in highlighting generational improvements in climbing as well as giving a nice history into the integration of training into climbing as a sport. It's also an incredible ensamble: depending on the metic, Adam Ondra is probably the best climber in the world at the moment. Ben Moon is a legend and if you've ever spent time on at a gym on a Moon board then you've benefitted from his inventions. If you don't know about the Moon board, it's usually where all of the hardest climbing climbers at the gym hang out due to its huge library of incredibly difficult climbs.

While I don't think there is anything here about who is actually "the best climber to have ever lived" (calling Alex Megos, Ashima Shiraishi, Alex Honnold, Nalle Hukkataival, or Daniel Woods), it is a really interesting look at progress in general. Also everyone involved is such a good sport - though I do think Ben Moon is having a hard time aging. Jerry Moffat may not have gotten on the routes, but man does he make it entertaining!

I'm happy to see you posted it, and enjoyed it too though. :)

And yeah, this was easily my one of my favorite Magnus videos too. And although I love his collabs with Adam Ondra, TBH I have a real soft spot for all his collaborations with Jujimufu even though he's not a climber, just because of how entertaining he is. I hope they collab again some time in the future, since I miss them interacting with each other... but I suppose until they do, Eddie Hall will have to do. ;)

I also miss the Jujumufu days. I think it was one of their collaborations that originally got me into the channel. Jujimufu is just such a great character! Fingers crossed we get a collaboration this year!!! And you're right , the Eddie Hall video was fun.

I don't know if you watch the Wide Boys, but I love their content too. There was a very fun recent one following Mari Salvesen on a gnarly 8b!

It's Boyz, not Boys... because they're radical dudes! ;) And, indeed, I do watch them religiously. Crack climbing is neat, and Tom and Mari are great too, but I adore Pete Whittaker. His collaborations with others, like Magnus, have all been absolutely amazing. E.g. His latest collabs with Toby Segar from Storror where Pete teaches Toby big wall, and Toby teaches Pete parkour (1,2,3) were incredibly entertaining.

p.s. And just in case you didn't see the Storror (parkour guys) crossover video with Pete from a few months ago, I also highly highly recommend watching it: PARKOUR vs CLIMBING - LAST MAN HANGING (7 vs 1)

Lol! Touche, my mistake! How could i forget the classic Z. And I totally agree, Pete is a total sweetheart. I actually saw Banff Mountain Film Fest when it came to town this weekend and Tom had a new movie in there. I'm not sure why but I'm not really taken with him.

Excellent suggestions on the Toby Segar collab, I know what I'm doing tonight! Ditto for the Storror videos, these look great!

In case you missed it, and need more to watch tonight, Toby broke the longest dyno world record on Climbers Crag last month. And he was in a few other vids with them more recently too, doing weird and famous dynos.

As for Tom, I like him but his personality is pretty mild which often doesn't make for the most entertaining of climbing videos, so I get where you're coming from. When he's in the cellar teaching other climbers to crack climb, does crazy/fun/difficult challenges (e.g. with Anna Hazelnutt, 2), or interviews other climbers on his Lattice Training podcast, that's when he's at his best though, IMO.

p.s. I have posted some other Storror videos that you also might enjoy:

That is an amazing movie and Marc-André Leclerc was an absolute beast! This is what is difficult about the "best climber to have ever lived", there are so many different metrics of measurement and styles of climbing. I don't tend to do big mountain stuff so I don't have much of a purview on it. My only overlap with Leclerc would be climbing the Chief up in Squamish, as soon as snow hits I am out! As much as climbing is climbing is climbing, there are real differences between bouldering, sport, trad, and alpinism. I mainly boulder, so for me someone like Nalle Hukkataival is insane and might take that title in my opinion. But the climbing community at large is probably focused more on sport (rope up bolted routes) or trad (bringing the aid with you in the form of cams/nuts/slings) so you'd be more likely to see Adam Ondra or Alex Megos given that title there. And for the Alpinists, that's even tougher. Do you give it to Marc-André Leclerc for his mind boggling accents or Ueli Steck for his contributions and FAs. They are a crazy group! I will call out that alpinists die at a much higher rate than everyone else, but it doesn't mean their form of climbing is more physical or technical, just that there are many more things that can kill you in their world. In any case, it's all kind of semantics!

Cool video, but in my heart of hearts I know that the hard boulder and sport boys don't have what it takes to suffer. Could Adam ondra climb Meru? I don't think so.
