How will the 2028 Olympics look given the current climate?
The 2028 Summer Olympics are slated to be in LA. I'm curious if we will come full circle and this will be the second time in history we do not have the Olympics.
That being said, the IOC has never really been non-corrupt so I don't exactly expect change. We saw that there was very little disruption when the Olympics were held in Sochi, for example. I'm curious what others think.

There was literally an Olympics hosted in Nazi Germany, there’s no way the 2028 Olympics are either not happening or changing locations.
I mean, the 1914, 1940, and 1944 Olympics were cancelled for war reasons. It's not just the Nazi component.
California's environment (the literal environment like wild fires and stuff) is also another consideration.
Don't they just use a ton of snow machines and refrigerated arenas? We have indoor ice rinks in the summer.
This is one of the richest cities in the richest state in the richest country in the world. Odds are they're going to make it happen even if there is a fire happening during the games.
I don’t think there’s any reason to believe WW3 is going to start before 2028.
The environment isn’t going to be all that different in 4 years. Wildfires are mostly centered in specific vulnerable areas - not where the sporting arenas are.
Could be similar to the 1936(?) Olympics where Hitler was in power and there was a lot of racism and vitriol spewed. Seems like the US has been following that playbook as of recent.
However there may even be mass boycotts. Olympians refusing to compete, or even entire countries refusing. If we're not in a full-scale war at the time, it will certainly be interesting to see it play out.
Hard to say this far out, as so many things could happen in this chaos.
Funny, due to the word 'climate', I assumed we were saying it was going to be too hot or too on fire to do sports safely.
Fascism as a reason feels a bit overblown to me personally, but give it a couple months and I could be proven wrong.
At least that whole Guantanamo thing isn't going really well for the administration.
It’s kind of impossible to say what the US political climate will look like at that point. Trump could be incredibly unpopular at that point after almost 4 years of all this or maybe he’s just riding it out with his 40-45% approval floor in the background as the two presidential candidates are in the spotlight. Trump will be older than Biden was at that point and probably showing his age as well.
But if I had to bet I’d say more likely than not that the Olympics goes on like normal as long as there aren’t any truly shocking geopolitical events going on.
